We really liked Pihlajasaari. Natures peace and beautiful beaches right next to the city. It is easily accessed from Ruoholahti with the ferry taking 15 minutes. Restaurant served delicious creamy salmon soup and finnish pancakes (pannari).
Pihjalasaari is certainly a must see in Helsinki if you wish to experience an authentic beach instead of crowded Hietaniemi beach. Good facilities for picnic, grill and barbecue and of course swimming. Just remember to check ferry schedule as it goes only once or twice...More
