Despite being a small museum it contains a wealth of information about the military history of Finland. This information was in chronological order which was extremely useful. The museum had a wide variety of weapons and military equipment from different eras. Definitely recommend if you are into military history.

Really interesting museum. So many things to see. There's even a typically war time cafe build inside the museum. You can have a traditional finnish delicacy "munkki" there.

Good chronological displays, with boards that you can pull out to see additional information if you want. Interesting artifacts and displays, didn't go outside to look at the weapons there. Was a really good addition to our trip to Soumolinna Fortress.

A lot of explanation on how the military force has been developed throughout the history (mainly from the 18th century to now). Wars determine very much on what forces and weapons the country develop, and the museum did the good job in telling me so. There were touches on role of civilians and women in the wars/army. After visiting the... More

If you like museums, you will like this one. Very interesting history and beautiful exhibits. Information was in Finnish, Swedish and English which was great. Decently priced but it was a little bit of a walk from downtown.

Visited late afternoon on New Year's Eve as we had a couple of hours to spare. Very interesting exhibits which have the feel of being put together with a lot of care - and all of which are well described in several languages, including English. Particularly strong on the 1939-45 period when the brave Finns fought to retain their country's... More

This is a tasteful, balanced account of the role of war in Finland's history. Knowing how proud Finns are of their military history, I was perhaps expecting jingoism or at least self-congratulation, but I found none. The exhibits do recognize and honour the sacrifices made for independence and provide a fascinating overview of Finland's civil war between the whites and... More

And worthy of recording Finland's tough history as neighbour of the Russian Bear. The opening hours, the 'unexciting' foyer, the formality of the staff are all typical of establishment-run institutions but looking beyond these aspects there is much to inspect and read in English in part. It is not surprising that so much space is devoted to Finland's experiences in... More

Finland has unfortunately had more wars than most countries - not by its own choosing. The military museum is focusing to a great deal on the winter and continuation wars.
