The Parliament of Finland is the unicameral supreme legislature, founded on 9 May 1906. The Parliament consists of 200 members, 199 of whom are elected every four years. In addition, there is one member from Åland.

The Parliament House is the seat of the Parliament of Finland. This landmark building is located in Helsinki, in the district of Töölö by the main street Mannerheimintie. The building was completed in 1931.

The main architect was Johan Sigfrid Siren who designed this red-granite building in a stripped classical architectural style combining Neoclassicism with early twentieth-century modernism. The facade is lined by fourteen columns with Corinthian capitals.

The parliament building has a somewhat harsh exterior . The pillars almost reminds me of the bars in a prison cell. However it's the official house of government business so I guess it was Mena t to reflect the seriousness of it and not a named attraction for visitors. To enter you must book a tour in advance or forget getting inside. Other than this take a photo and move on like I did.

A rather intimidating looking building from the exterior given this is the seat of power for Finland. You cant fail to see it if in the Toolo district of Helsinki.

On our recent visit to Helsinki, we decided to do the English tour of the Finnish Parliament House in Helsinki. It was an extremely interesting and informative tour and one that leaves visitors with a very positive impression of the Finnish form of government and their Republican model. Despite Finland's relative small population, the Parliament House was very extensive and impressive. The tours around the Parliament House are free with English (and other language) guided tours running regularly (you will need to check the days and times). Highly recommended.

The building itself wasn't that jaw dropping, to be honest (big and impressive, but not very ornate on the outside), but I did really enjoy when all the odd performance artists arrived on bikes and in identical suits and moved in slo-motion over the steps. Neat!

Visited during the summer, so there were no sessions and hardly any employee. The building has very interesting architecture. The tour is very informative. Look up the tour times ahead of time. The English tour is at 1pm.

The Parliament building sits a bit on a hill and is an impressive facade. There are some nice statues outside. It’s not a huge building but it is an important one.

A striking building in the Koala district and for such a large structure, it only has 200 members of Parliament which was surprising.
The building looks a lot older than it is but is an estimated 100 years old.
Well worth a look if you are visiting this beautiful capital city.
