Aalto's bookshop

Have always been voted as one of the most beautiful bookstores in the world. Mesmerising to just ogle at the architecture and not buying anything. Should try the Aalto Cafe though.

Some years ago, I wrote a review highly praising this book store. It still remains possibly the best in town (you should also pay a visit to Suomalainen Kirjakauppa), but has downscaled considerable in the past few years, apparently due to increasing online shopping of books with better prices. Also, it was taken over by a Swedish publishing company. Regrettable... More

Akateeminen Kirjakauppa (Academic Bookstore) is a traditional bookstore with great variety of books and related products. The building was designed by the most famous Finnish architect Alvar Aalto in 1969. "Akateeminen" (as it is commonly called) is one of the more monumental bookstores anywhere, and the interieur is a sight in itself. The book selection is good, but it used... More

In my opinion this is the best bookstore in Finland. Big, two stories high, beautiful old building in downtown Helsinki. Starbucks cafe located in first floor.

The puremisesta are designed by Finnish architect Alvar Aalto. It used to be a world class bookshop. Now with new owners the book collection is not as wide and interesting. It still is a big bookshop in Helsinki, but the speciality of great variety and knowledgeablee shop assistants have disappeared. Still, wotrh visiting.

Large book store in Helsinki down town. It is worth of visit. Situated on North Esplanadi street. There is also nice caffeteria inside the bookstrore. Store is a piece of architecture, so if you dont like the books, just admire the architecture.

Booklovers can spend hours in this bookshop, even when they don't read any Finnish books. There is a good selection of English, German and French books. Interesting is the interior design and the Aalto coffee bar.
