- sianSt. Davids, United Kingdom5 contributionsBustling little marketIt’s a lovely place to visit and stroll around. Market stall traders very friendly and welcoming. Food is good value and it was lovely to sit outside in the frosty air and watch the world go by. Market stalls generally full of touristy souvenirs when we visited in March, but there were some really good hand made items too.Visited March 2024Traveled with familyWritten March 11, 2024

Enjoy the busy vibe of this place.Popular harbour area with markets aimed at tourists for souvenirs and food. Really enjoyed the busy vibe and some of the street food vendors. Can be hectic at key times but obviously a place to go. You also get all your boat trips to the nearby islands from here as well as ferries. The cruise ships are around the corner but you still see some big boats here. Nearby Ferris wheel and other attractions plus restaurants and cafes. There are also places to sunbathe and swimming pools in paid for segregated sections if you want. Seagulls hang around here but as long as you don’t encourage them they don’t pester you. A lot Helsinki’s main attractions are in walking distance so you can see the famous white cathedral over the harbour area buildings that makes for a great picture if coming into port from a boat trip.Visited August 2024Traveled with friendsWritten August 15, 2024

This was way more touristy than I thought it would be. While there are a few artists selling their wares, it was mostly magnets and postcards. The produce tents would have been more appealing if the folks inside weren't yelling out to me every time I walked by. What I thought was a local market where local farmers and craftspeople sell their goods to locals, is really just a big outdoor souvenir shop. If that's what you're looking for, great. I just wish I had known that before going.

Wonderful place to wander and browse the pop up artisan stores, food places, and fresh fruit and vegetable places.
Being on thee edge of the sea adds to the experience. Ferries coming and going to nearby islands, pleasure craft everywhere, ocean car carrying liners in the distance. It's all great.

Very strategic location in Helsinki to taste local dishes and to purchase locally made handicrafts.
It’s a cool place to stop for a snack or a drink if you are sightseeing and need a quick break.
Also, the building and the surrounding areas are very scenic and rich in history.

2/5. 3rd time visiting but this time (end Aug) it was a bust. Nothing spectacular, felt like a tourist trap and food stands felt generic and boring. Ordered some food (smelt, fish soup, calimari rings and nothing was tasty. Rings were 90% batter, fish soup lacked small shrimp and love (best soup I had was on a boat docked in the winter…. This soup last week felt way short of expectations).
I would avoid eating at harbour and find something inside the city.

Take your time going around all of the food stalls and stalls and enjoy the atmosphere here. Plenty of food, coffee, treats and souvenirs at hand here but it closes at about 4 or 5pm. Worth a visit though.

Great place to peruse the various stalls selling fresh produce, souvenirs, handicrafts, food, and more. Go with an appetite and get some tasty seafood or something sweet. There are many vendors, and the setting is lovely as it's right on the waterfront.

This market square will let you browse Helsinki's popular flea market, souvenir stalls and the Hietalahti food market. We had a good time trying out different berries in season. The strawberries were supersweet. So we bought a basket and found ourselves a bench overlooking the harbour. Here you can watch boats coming and going as you enjoy fresh, delicious products bought at the market. Sometimes we find these tourist trodden markets overpriced, but in our opinion this was a reasonable priced food market.

Hi, I'mm looking for the name of the cushion stall in Helsinki market square (near the port). I can't remember the name... the lady had beautiful pillow and cushion covers. can anybody help? Thanks.

It is impossible to tell who is selling on the market place because the merchants may stay there only temporarily. However, I know Ms. Jutta Kuure who has Taiga colors boutique nearby the Market Place.
Jutta also always has liked nature, adventure and those two combined. Jutta has designed patterns on Finnish nature and urban Helsinki, named them Taiga Colors. Taiga Colors Helsinki is located in the Tori Quarters, in the modern heart of the old town. Taiga Colors is also a part of Design Destrict Helsinki. They sell beautiful durable made in Finland cushions.

Paul P mentions an AAVA Lines boat tour run by a couple of guys at the end of the market. Does anyone know if it runs week days as well, or just on weekends (the boat trip, not the market). Many thanks, Gary White
