This cathedral is very impressive from the outside but less interesting from the inside--never the less it is a worthwhile visit.

Quiet sanctuary for travellers and historic detail to explore. Easy to access only a few steps from the City Hall.

The Square is very beautiful, when you enter you might expect something more, but it has all the walls white, so you will enjoy more the view from the top of the stairs.

This Lutheran church is located right above the stairs overlooking Senate Square. This unique location makes it picturesque. Green dome, white exterior, simple white interior with statues of saints of Protestant, big organ pipe on top, it is more for preaching than to impress visitors. This is the masterpiece by architect Carl Ludwig Engel, completed in 1852. Photos taken from... More

the cathedral stands tall on top of an elevated platform to be seen from different parts of the city. its Majestic, Holly, Symbolic and reflects the skills of the engineers and architects at the time the cathedral was built. the visit to the cathedral is not to be missed. the experience is divine.

Was told we must see this church. It was quite a walk from our hotel but it was well worth the walk. The Church was built in 1868 and the interior was just magnificent. If you go to Helsinki this should be a must see while you are there.

While the Helsinki Cathedral dominates the skyline, inside its just a tall white church. You can get a great view of the cathedral from almost anywhere around town. The Helsinki Cathedral may look best though from a boat where you have the standoff to see just how large it is. This simple white structure soars above most of downtown Helsinki.... More

When you visit Helsinki it seems you can see the cathedral just about from anywhere. It stands majestically in senate square. When you walk in you expect it to be quite grand but it's simple. There is a crypt you can visit but we didn't make it that day.

Churches of this period needed to be imposing yet not ornate, almost modest. This building does both, its presence dominates the square and the surrounding buildings. While inside it's almost austere. This is a building that you must visit.
