We first went to Suomenlina on a mid-summer evening that was freezing cold, but so perfect for understanding the history and location of this fascinating fortress complex. The second visit was a much sunnier experience and confirmed the beauty and amazing scale of this island based military site. Both visits were memorable - for different reasons - and this is... Jump in the ferry and enjoy of the sea breeze. The 10 minutes ferry ride will take you bac in a history to an island of 800 inhabitants, restaurants (Summer time) and few cafes (most open in the Summer time). A shop in the harbour to buy snacks and drinks. If there are Pokemon Go players in your family /... More

There is an amazing place at the east end of the island: There is very narrow inlet between two islands, where you can spot a large cruiser ship zigzagging through the narrows. Just climb on to the walls and wait for the ship daily for example at 16:30. Just under those walls you can spot some caves, in which our... More

Fortress Suomenlinna is spread over several small islands connected by bridges. There is quite a lot to see, so if you want to have a walk around all the islands, visit a museum and have lunch, your visit will take at least 3-4 hours. The highlights for me were a visit to the Vesikko submarine and a walk around the... More

The Suomenlinna fortress is an Unesco World Heritage (1991) location. The building started 1748. The fortress is easily accessible, outside you can see old guns and you have an excellent photographic view towards Helsinki. There also is a very rare attraction, a Finnish submarine "Vesikko" (1933), that is open to public for a small fee. It was used in the... More

Wonderful views of Helsinki from the sea. Lots of historic ruins, guns and fortresses. Cafes and restaurants are open during the summer, there is also a grocery store.

Get the regular ferry from the harbour on a day ticket. The church and old buildings worth a look and a nice walk on a dry day - need good shoes as cobbles/uneven ground. Good sea views if you walk across the island and good views from the ferry. Nothing much open though as after the end off September they... More

An easy ride on the ferry from the main market square. The ferry ride is included in your public transportation ticket if you have one. It will take you to the North part of the island and from there you can start exploring. There is plenty of stuff to see and even without going inside the various places, it is... More

You can get on the boat to Suomenlinna for free if you buy a day-ticket from one of the corner shops. There's a lot of attractions and tourists, I recommend you to go down South and take some photos on the cliff. It has an amazing view.
