Great place for food and souvenirs

An authentic market very popular among locals where you can buy excellent food at good prices as well as souvenirs or local finnish products.

Muikku...a tiny smelt-like fish with legs. Yes...and you must eat this stir fried wok-prepared delicacy at one of the many stalls in this fabulous market area that sells absolutely everything from fruit to vegetables to wares to...well...muikku :)

We enjoyed the hour we spent walking amongst the food stalls and the souvenir tents. Interesting to see how many products can be produced and marketed from one reindeer. Sample the food and variety of fruits available. We went to the older and less touristy indoor market nearer to the train station and enjoyed both.

Nothing special. Go, instead, to the old market, near the harbour. If you are passing by, you can definitely have a look.

The market Place is not worth a detour, but it's absolutely worth a visit if you're nearby. Hakaniemi is not as touristic as the main market and it's also much smaller. Here you can find all the vegatables, fruits and berries you need. There's also a couple of restaurant/café tents with both in- as well as outdoor seating. Most of... More

As I enjoy walking around in market halls Hakaniemi market was the first to visit for me. In the groundfloor you will find all kinds of food, even some bakeries! The food sold here is said to be of the best quality in Helsinki! On the first ground you will find all kinds of items and souvenirs, even a marimekko-shop... More

For any traveller to Helsinki who seeks bargain souvenir, this market hall - famous with locals and of historical interest - should be a target wherein to find that desired gift or typically Finnish handicraft item. Not only does it provide the usual wooden and woollen items but it also offers good quality food and snacks for those who require... More

If Kauppatori is touristic, Hakaniementori is the authentic Market as the Market Hall also. Full of life and local people. Fresh products, vegetables, food. Friendly athmosphere.

I passed through here on my way to meet friends at Juttutupa for lunch. It was a weekday and there was the usual sorry selection of 10 or so uninteresting stalls. Yes, OK, if you want to buy some berries, great, but why would you come all the way here to do so? The Hakaniemi Market Hall, on the other... More
