    Interesting church
Interesting church carved out of bedrock. It was built by two brother architects in the 1960s and is famed for its acoustics. It’s a bit expensive to go in (8 euros) in my opinion, but an interesting church nonetheless. It’s actually quite small, that is why the price seems a bit steep for me for what you get.

A church any 'rock' choir would be pleased to play in
A wonderful church and incredible that it was built into solid rock - incredible architecture both inside and out, a great feat of engineering. The acoustics are suppose to be excellent and so would look to attend a concert here. There is an entrance fee of 8 euros per person which was worth it.

    Architecture Marvel
Truly is a beautiful modern church which is design and built in a truly unorthodox way. The finishing and fit outs were beautifully matching the interior of the church with many modern art deco pieces. The size and the construction of the pipe organ is truly outstanding as well. Please stay around to listen to the acoustics in the church if you have the chance to visit a concert, performance or just to listen to the church organ. Excellent example of Finnish architecture

Well worth a quick visit, cool architecture
One of the more interesting churches I have ever encountered in visiting 50 countries. It is built sunken into a rock although the slats in the roof although light and visions of the sky to shine through. Truly remarkable place and well worth a short visit. Not sure they hold services here anymore although there were lots of wedding photos.

    A church like no other
The church was created out of the rock and it is simply stunning. The interior is basic but the atmosphere comes from the rough rock surfaces and incredible copper coloured metal work. It is just an amazing place that really took the breath away.

Rock Church - likely to be busy in the summer
This is an extraordinary church and is very much on Helsinki's tourist trail, so don't expect much tranquility here during summer months! Cut into rock, the church is a short walk or bus or tram ride (no 4 goes past it) from Helsinki Central Station. There is an entrance fee - this will vary depending on when and where you buy it.

    Unique structure
Just a must see if in Helsinki. You will not see anything like this anywhere in the world. As it should be it was a calm and peaceful place where you could sit and reflect. As others have said …. Not sure you should pay to enter a church. Well worth a visit.

‘You won’t need long here, we stayed a maximum of 15 minutes.’
Entry is €8 for an adult and I think children are free. I’d like to say I’m fairly well travelled but I’ve never seen a church like this before. The wooden circle on the roof, slates which let in a lot of natural light and rocks/stones all the way around. You won’t need long here, we stayed a maximum of 15 minutes. Around the back of the church you can walk up to the top if you wish. You can’t see the green roof but it’s very peaceful. There’s also a few benches so it’s good spot to rest your legs. Overall, a beautiful church with an utterly unique design but €8 entry seems a little excessive.
Thank you for visiting! The dome is actually made of copper both on the inside and on the outside.

    Most unusual
The most unusual church we have ever visited but still with a very spiritual atmosphere. The architecture was stunning both for the walls built of rock and the copper ceiling/roof. Despite the entry fee of 8 euros it is worth a visit.

    Very Unique Experience
I've been to churches all over Europe and this was unique. None of the typical ancient artwork or traditional architecture. The old world feel of the natural Rock blended with the Copper Dome and Glass roof structure was impressive and unexpected. Surprised to pay 8e for admission, but it was worth it to us.

Open during non-mass sessions, tickets can be bought immediatley upon entry through the glass doors. Tickets have to be purchsed with cash as they did not have card payment facilities when we were there so have some euros ready. We went when it was just opening and the queue was long with the addition of tour buses. Inside it was somewhat noisy due to the number of people and there were everal PA announcements made to remain hushed.

Try to visit when its less busy to appreciate the ambience and respect the sanctity of the place.

This is a very neat spot to check out. Not difficult to get to and very awe inspiring, a definite must see. Call first and ask what times are typically less busy. Too bad that there was some live instrumental music happening when we were there, very loud and nerve grating. Churches - even touristy churches - should be a quiet space. Too bad we didn’t know to ask - it definitely wrecked our experience.

An amazing church! I spent a few minutes here on my first visit to Helsinki in 2018. On that trip, I was alone, and I was more keen on museums! This time, I was with my wife, so we did things on a leisurely scale. We spent about an hour here. The church has been hewn out of solid rock (floor and walls). The roof is a copper dome, and in-between there are windows which provide plenty of natural light. It is worth seeing as a church. But, even if you are a non-believer, it is worth seeing purely for the architecture. There is a small entrance fee, but it is free for those with a Helsinki card. One thing: while it is called Rock Church in English, the Finnish name is totally different. If you want directions, it would help if you write down the Finnish name! Photos freely allowed. But, please remember it is a place of worship, so some decorum is expected!

Dear Alex, thank you so much for your utmost accurate description of the church and of all our main features. And you are absolutely right: the Finnish name is Temppeliaukion kirkko which literally translates into The Church of the Temple Square. Hopefully we will see you as our guest(s) a third time :)

Money pit - totally skip it- they charge 16 Euros for 2 adults to enter the church but have no decency or obligation or compassion to provide bathrooms for visitors. Recommend saying time and money and watch it on YouTube, trust me you will not miss it and thank me. I went through the ratings show but I believe this is hyped up.

The place has quite early closing times but when open it is worth a peek if you like modern concrete structures married to natural rock. The best experience is to get a ticket for some concert like the one jazz quartet concert I took. Do it in nice weather and you will be rewarded with some nice light effects on the rock wall.

Our cruise ship was in Helsinki from 10 am to 6 pm and thus we had limited time to see only the main sites of the city. The Rock Church (Temppeliaukion Kirkko) was one of the must see sites We therefore walked over to the downtown stop of our shuttle service after visiting the Market Square, the Russian Orthodox Cathedral and the Lutheran Cathedral and took the shuttle to the Rock Church which is a fair distance away. Entry fee was 3 Euro but definitely worth it. It is excavated directly into solid rock. The church hall is covered with a dome lined with copper and supported by concrete beams. The interior walls are of rugged rock and rubble. Unique contemporary Scandinavian architecture, definitely worth a visit.

Thank you so much for taking the time to visit and for thinking it was time well spent! Yes, we do have this string of unique Scandinavian architecture as you mentioned, so we are also well known among architects and students of architecture. I hope you´ll be able to visit again in the future, maybe so that you can experience our world famous acoustics at a concert?

We were killing some time after the visiting our main destination we wanted to see, so gave it a go. Building itself is indeed interesting one, I'm not into architecture, but this was definitely not your regular architecture of a church. It is quite minimalist inside, so if no concerts or something like that, not much time to be spend there. Regarding the price, I think 4 euros per adult (kids upto 18 years old are going in for free) a bit much for this type of attraction, and look like more not a ticket price but obligatory donation. In any case don't get your expectations too high on that.

Constructed from Granite with a domed roof this place of worship is in a beautiful setting near the centre of Helsinki. €3 entrance fee and places to leave coats and bags. Great just to sit and spend time to marvel at the architecture of the structure. Definitely should be on your sights list for a Helsinki visit.

This front wall of this church was built adjacent to a slab of granite. Other rocks were added to the walls so the structure resembles a cave or grotto. The domed roof provides excellent acoustics. The church has a modern entrance with a reception desk and gift counter. Other than the architecture, there is little ornament in the church which beckons. I say that because there is a 5 Euro charge to get into the church up close. If you want to save your money, you can see the whole thing very well from the reception area. I would not say it is a "must see."

We did pay the fee however, as we happened to visit on a Friday afternoon when they have a concert of experimental music. I still need to recheck the dictionary definition of "music" because I suspect this performance missed the mark. The performers may have been very talented but the caterwauling was the worst thing I have heard.

By the way, the church offers no public restrooms.

I was overwhelmed by the impression live music made on the athmosphere of the building having never heard it before. This was an extempore visit to a free concert given by the official representative orchestra of Finland, the oldest professional too dating back to 1819. The Guards Band didn't play any classical military music but modern pieces by Finnish composers like Magnus Lindberg's Gran Duo. Sounds by the wind instruments resonated from the rock walls and copper cupola.
