The church is original, outside and inside, but the opening hours are absolutely crazy (and are not really shown enywhere but at the door) and there are so many people inside that you feel like you are in Disneyworld, not in a church...

From the outside you'd think you were entering a dull soviet concrete bunker. Inside its magical, copper roof cut into rock. And what made it special for our visit was a children's orchestra rehearsing. Amazing sound.

Don't miss this unique church. Take tram no 2 from Market Square (Salutorget) and you are there in less than fifteen minutes. Enjoy the architecture.

The church is carved out of the rock and then built up. A very natural experience with interesting ambient light, beautiful organ and dramatic setting. Check times open for visits; on the hour for 15 minute duration and you need to work your way around any events (weddings).

If you have to be in Helsinki, this church is worth visiting. In what seemed to me a pretty boring city overall, with few real highlights, this stunning piece of architecture really stand out. What else are you going to do?

The concept of a church carved out in a rock foundation is fascinating. The place is worth a visit, but difficult to appreciate because at this time of year (August) it was totally overrun by tourists who seemed mostly irreverent of a sacred place. For example, they were climbing on the rocks above the signs that say in several languages,... More

We visited the Rock Church with a friend who lives in Helsinki so we go the special "insider's" tour. Fortunately, there was a woman playing the piano and we sat for quite a while listening to the mesmerizing music. It's a very peaceful place.

''Temppelinaukio'' rockchurch was where my Sunday school was held when I was little, and ever since then, this church has been a very special place and truly unique in its rocky atmosphere. A must-visit on every Helsinki visitor, whether you were spiritual or not!

Interesting to see, I would say a 'must see' stop in Helsinki. However when I was there hoards of disrespectful tourists descended. This is, after all, a CHURCH. There were person of person standing right next to the 'no photography' sign taking pictures. Really soured the experience for me. Pity...
