We visited for a milestone Birthday because i wanted to be in the snow. I read in Cosmopolitan that the ski season started in October here....what a load of tosh! Most places were closed, it didn’t snow once and there were only patchty bits of...More
It was amazing all the routes were well kept and the food was amazing especially at the Classic Pizza Restaurant. It has a frozen lake-depending on when you go, the lake is nice and you can go on snow mobiles over the lake on a...More
was nice to go skiing but the accommodation there is a bit pricey, better stay in a hotel a short distance away, saves a bundle. But still very nice to go and ski and for some entertainment. I can recommend it.
My wife and I visited Ruka in January 2018 and after over ten years of visiting France, we think we have a new favourite! Great snowpark, conditions and cosy town. No queues on the lifts and incredible scenery
Having been to Ruka a few times before at Christmas or New Year we thought we would try February for a change. We always stay at ski inn apartments as they are very well located for the slopes. We love the resort and trying a...More
This is a great ski resort - enough variety for a group of expert and intermediate skiers from Australia. Heaps of lifts, never too crowded. Not expensive (compared to Australia) for lift tickets or lunch on mountain. Really amazing scenery, with the frozen trees looking...More
We love it in Ruka and come every year. It's a great resort for families and totally safe. It has great facilities for all abilities, lovely restaurants, shops etc. Chalets around and near by are all wonderful and the free ski-bus around the resort is...More
Our first visit to Ruka, possibly of many! Most Crystal Ski clients had been 2 or 3 times and easy to see why. Close to airport, hassle free transfer, lift pass and equipment rental. Ski holidays can be 'hard work' with three kids but not...More

I would imagine so. The pistes are lit up anyway if it gets dark early. Hope you’re luckier than us when at the beginning of November most of Ruka was shut - despite an article in Cosmopolitan stating that the ski season began here mid October- which isn’t the case. You should be fine in February. It’s a nice place - but things are expensive...

Going to Ruka in January and wondered what there is to see/do in Kuusamo town?

in town (or central village) not much. Spa called Kuusamon tropiikki halfway between Ruka and Kuusamo. The main tourist sight is the nature. Most buildings in the town were destroyed in the Second world war. Even the church, which may look like older, is from 1950. In ruka village you have shopping centere Kumpare with souvenir shops, small pharmacy, etc. Kuusamo town has one larger supermarket and a full-scale pharmacy.
Ruka Log Cabins 23rd March (9 Replies)
Hi all Anyone going to Ruka on Easter Sunday? We (4 adults and 3 children) are staying at the Ruka Log Cabins for a week. We've booked via Crystal. Has anyone been to Ruka lately - been looking on here regularly but not many people have posted a report. Weather looks good at the moment and according to Ruka website, snow is at 82cm. Cheers Alison

yes we fly out of manchester then. We are also via crystal but off to the Holiday club. There are a few reviews of the hotels (look under kussamo), and have to say ours is not looking too fab at the moment, but all seem to give ruka a good review. I have been watching web cams for months now, cannot wait to get out there. Sandra
Christmas Eve meal (0 Replies)
Any recommendations of where we could eat out Christmas Eve in Ruka? We are 2 adults 2 children (11&8) and looking for somewhere relaxed with a nice Christmassy feeling. As we are self catering, it's my intention that we'll be eating in the rest of the time. Thanks 😀
