The fishing day with Mika greatly exceeded our expectations. You can feel the passion of the staff for the activities they organise. Also, great conversations around a fire and delicious snacks about life in Finland. Many thx

It realy was a winter wonderland with the warmest greating
meeting the reindeers and watching as your personal sleigh was lined with skins and furs, then you were sat in the sleigh and snuggled comfortably with more coverings as the reindeers are harnessed to your sleigh.
The tour we took was a 3Kilometer trip through the winter wonderland Narnia like surroundings around the reindeer farm.
On our return we were welcomed back to a wonderful warm cabin with hot chocolates for all and home cooked biscuits and breads.
The whole trip is something that my family and I will remember with joy, and we will definitely be returning
Thank-you Ruka for making our holiday a Fabulous one

Visited the farm as our first stop during a weekend to Ruka. Mika met us in the arrivals lounge at the airport and then drove us to the farm. Spent a couple of hours riding reindeer sleds, feeding reindeer and learning about reindeers and reindeer farming followed by time in a traditional reindeer farmers house drinking hot drinks and eating cookies and sausages. Received our reindeer driving licences and then Mika took us onward to our hotel in Ruka.
Mika is an excellent guide - he is really friendly & knowledgeable about the reindeers and patiently answered questions from the kids (where is Rudolph etc.)

We booked directly and it was significantly better value than going via one of the tour operators - we had a private visit for the same price as group trips to other farms!

First time in our lives we've seen reindeers and this has definitively been a great experience. To be honest I was quite sceptical at first, I usually tend not to like it so much when animals are used for "entertainment". But this place is really just perfect! The 2 owners a 2 passionates that live, breathe and love reindeers more than anything else and you can feel it from the first seconds you get there.
The story behind the reindeers and herding is really fascinating as well! I had no idea that these animals were actually living "in the wild" for most of the year and would only come to this farm in wintertime in order to get enough food.
It has been a great day and we've leart a lot! Thanks a lot!

The visit to the reindeer farm 10 kilometers from the center of Kuusamo was an enjoyable experience, starting with some background of the family farm in English. We got to drive a reindeer "Big Boy", pulling us in a sleigh for 300 metres.

We got to feed the young reindeer in an enclosure. All of them were friendly and approaches us and had their mouthful of lichen. We were told about the Saami way of reindeer herding and how the industry had changed while around a fireplace, roasting sausages. Thoroughly enjoyable.

We couldn’t have felt more welcome!
Started with a 10 minute reindeer sleigh ride, before feeding the female reindeer moss - reindeer chocolate!
Then sat inside a traditional wooden hut, with a roaring open fire in the middle to warm us up, ate reindeer sausages and little cakes (like scones) from the owner’s grandmother’s recipe 😊 while she told us what it means to be a seventh generation reindeer farmer.
Visit concluded with a visit to her grandparents’ original wooden house and an opportunity to buy sausages/ salami / felted goods - but with no pressure.

We visited this reindeer farm in between seasons and it was so worth it. The reindeer are beautiful and the herders Satu and Mika (and Tommy) were very welcoming and fascinating to talk to. They were waiting in anticipation for the snow to arrive! We learnt so much. We would highly recommend visiting them in any season. We could imagine how magical it would be in winter so will have to go back - just to make sure!! Kiitos for spending so much time with us and for the delicious tea/coffee and kampanisu.

Have been there in August with family including small kids. Owners of the place are kind and nice people. Many explanation about the reindeers, traditions of local people and many other things were given by them. Reindeers feeding, many amazing photos, tea and coffee, tasty sausages on grill, traditional Saami house and small shop with many interesting souvenirs. I recommend visiting this place at any season.

A must visit and highly recommended, if you want to learn more about rendeer farming and to get close to the animals. Mika is very knowledgeable and was able to answer the questions of our teens as well as our 92 year grandma. We were able to feed the animals and be among them. Mika also shows you the original home of his parents. He offers fishing trips and rafting trips, which we could not do because if time constrains. In the winter time they offer rendeer sledge rides. Its been a wonderful and enriching visit, enjoyable for me, may husband, our teenage boys and grandma!
