I'm going to tell you about my entire trip. Rovaniemi without snow and Santa Claus village would not be Rovaniemi. I visited the city center which was really ugly, apart from the snow and some Christmas decorations, I think in summer it must be really ugly. The architecture leaves baba🥴 The restaurants only Thai or Asian, and two or 3 typical Finnish restaurants, I had the impression of being in Asia in the city center.

The centre of the Rovaniemi shopping area, with a couple of small shopping arcades nearby. The best one being a couple of minutes walk up the slight hill towards the Scandic Hotel and the across the road

Lordi Square had a free Santa office you could visit and meet him without any queuing, even in December.

There was also a nice ice rink where you could have a go on real ice for about 10 euros per person.

We visited Rovaniemi city centre from Santa Claus Village to collect from rented winter clothes. While we were there we decided to spend some time and visited Lordi's Square. It's a square. It has some shops. That's all we have to say. It actually turned out useful as our son had a fingernail infection and the pharmacy there were very helpful. But, yeah.

During my 6 month long association with Lapland, this is one of the places that left a lasting impression on me. I'll start with the huge temperature indicator tower erected right in the center. While walking to work everyday in the center, I loved checking the city weather being displayed right there. Look around, you'll find everything from a tourist point of view. Top tour agencies, malls, cafes, souvenir shops, upscale restaurants, bar, bus stop, hotels, and almost everything that you need.

If you are stranded in the Lordi's Square, fret not, you are perfectly covered. The Mac Donalds, and Revontulli Mall with Clas Ohlson in the lower ground floor - the one stop shop for everything you need, will be my top recommendation as a tour guide and travel writer. For more details you can reach out to me on my blog Whistling Hound. 😉

I was very pleased when saw all the lights and 3 huuuge Christmas trees all in lights. Smaller ones around also were lighten up :). There were ice sculptures of 3 wise man and animals in the crib with baby Jesus Maria and Joseph. Nicely done!

This square is named after Lordi who is from Rovaniemi and won the Eurovision Song Contest in 2006. You can find here Lordi's handprints and signatures.

During Christmas time, the square is not so ugly. There are beautiful Christmas lights and some booths selling handicrafts. Also, there is a little cottage with a nativity scene.

We stayed at Santa Claus hotel and it is just located at the city center. It is a very small city where you can explore by foot. Though we arrived here during the winter month, expect the negative degree Centigrade temperature while walking. Lots of restaurants in the area

If you stay in Rovaniemi city Centre, definitely worth staying close to Lordi square. We where here when it was snowing and that made it even more magical!

They have ice skating and slides. You can hire skates and mats to use on the slides all at very reasonable prices.
Nice restaurants and shops around too!
