Ice fishing on a frozen lake

We will travel 20 minutes from Rovaniemi by minivan and take a short walk to reach the lake. The location is our own private place away from the crowds in the middle of the peaceful nature. The main activity is of course fishing itself, but the frozen lake also offers an ideal setting for landscape and wildlife photos.

Once we reach the lake, we will teach you the basics of ice fishing and enjoy a pleasant afternoon fishing and photographing. We will also set up a campfire in traditional Lappish Kota shelter and enjoy some hot drinks and snacks – and of course fry our catch of the day!

We had the best of times with our tour. Juhani (?spelling) was very professional, friendly, and very proficient in photography. Was very quick with helping and explaining the set up of our different cameras, even though I am a novice. Though we saw very little (but some) lights it was a fun night. Really enjoyed sharing stories with him by the fire while cooking our sausages.

Second attempt to see the lights and did not disappoint! I booked both trips with Beyond Arctic because they strive to give you the best experience even when the chances of seeing the lights are low. I recommend calling the front desk before making the booking to make sure you get an idea of the possibilities to see the lights at a particular day or week. Nadja helped us with our camera settings and took great photos of us with the light in the background. It was awesome!

While it's always a question as to whether you'll see the lights for not, this tour did not disappoint! Our guide got us outfitted in our snow suits and off we went on our hunt! As we were driving out of the city, she was scanning the skies, and saw some "interesting activity. " We stopped at a location, and sure enough, there they were!! She helped us get our camera settings optimized, and we got some great pics. Then on to our main location, where the lights appeared for over an hour. This company can't control the lights, so we got blessed on that front, but they sure know how to optimize the hunt!! Great tour!

We stayed a few days in Rovaniemi and took this tour out to Riisitunturi. It was really amazing. It's well worth the price and the 2 hour drive! The scenery was so surreal - it was as if Dr Seuss illustrated the plant Hoth - every few steps the landscape changed to something different and amazing. When we went it was lightly snowing, and it was so peaceful and beautiful. Our guide was really great, and gave us a lot of the natural history of the park and also took some fabulous photos of us. He was also helpful in pointing out great places to take my own photos. About halfway through we stopped at a sheltered camp where we had a fire and roasted sausages and sandwiches. The hike itself isn't difficult. It was about 5Km. Off trail the snow was crazy deep. We had our own snow gear, boots, etc, but they will provide snow suits, boots, gloves, etc. if you don't have your own. Definitely recommend!
