So after a year of waiting it was finally our turn for the TUI search for Santa day trip to the snow village on Sunday.. here are my thoughts and tips 🤩 took my 10 year old son on my own and it was super easy to get around and all well organised…🇫🇮🎄🎅
Very long day and early start, we booked an airport hotel the night before and checked in online, this meant we got to the airport about 2 hrs before which was plenty as no luggage.…
The flight out with TUI was fun and full on 😂 the staff were dressed up, lots of Christmas games and music plus snacks and food 👍🏻
Arrived and straight to get our suits from the warehouse (had our own boots and glad we did!) very well organised and were one of the first out… lots of helpful elves about to help with anything 😂
Waited on the bus for about 40 mins which was a shame as we waited for one family to get sorted 🙄 so that was time lost…
About a 25 min drive to the resort, given times for lunch and Santa then off to explore ourselves….
Loved it all, unfortunately couldn’t do the snow mobiles as my 10 year old was a few cm too small 🙄 this was a real shame as it was the longest taster session and given no option to have a sleigh behind… loved the huskies (very short about 30 seconds) lots of other activities to do such as sledging, football in the snow, snow ball fights etc! The sleigh ride to see Santa was just magical in the dark through the forests and we were impressed with Santa and the cabin too! 🎅
Tips… it was minus 22!! Take spare of everything, I thought I’d packed too much but we got through it all as it snowed the entire time so all hats, scarves, etc got very wet quickly! Didn’t use the hand warmers id packed…my hair froze, lashes and brows 😂 plus iceicles form every time you breath in your nose! I wore glasses which also constantly steamed up 🤷🏻♀️🙈 we wore base thermals plus jumper and fleece, leggings and joggers and suits and just warm enough in those temperatures ❄️🥶 no chance of the lights unfortunately as snowing, however managed to capture a glimpse in one of my pics still! 🤩
Flight home seemed very long as we were very tired (you feel like you’ve been blasted by the cold weather!) 😂 but got home ok and back in bed in the UK by 1am ish…
Overall a magical day, did everything we wanted and what an experience…could not fault TUI and we got a really good deal booking a year in advance, would do it all over again if I could! 🤩

I’ve visited a few times now, the most recent being in January this year. Different themes every year and the art and sculpture work never fails to amaze me! The rooms are incredible, absolutely love the place. The ice bar is very cool but this year found it to be very small (maybe covid related), nevertheless I didn’t miss out on an ice shot! I definitely recommend paying this place a visit if you’re in Lapland over winter.

Excellent art work. Well worth a visit. I stayed overnight which was a good experience but not something I'd do again. The bar is expensive at €10 for half glass of champaigne. If you want a meal in the ice restaurant it's €90 per person minimum. Great place to visit tho, don't let the prices put you off.

Would recommend anyone to visit this you will be blown away with the art & skills involved in building this incredible place

I visit Snow village in winters and the theme was Game of Thrones. Every single sculpture was a piece of art, carved with great precision and delicacy. The also had game of throne's theme music in the background. The snow village also had rooms for accommodation but the temperature was way below the freezing point so I doubt the practicality. While roaming around the ice sculptures, we were so cold that we had to run back to reception and warm ourselves up a little and then go back to explore the rest of the castle. We enjoyed our time thoroughly, hats off to their creative teams for coming up with this idea. Our original plan was to go to Rovaniemi and visit Santa Claus Village because Snow Village is about 170Km away from Rovaniemi and when bus dropped us at the Kittila bus stop, we had to get a taxi for snow village. The change in rides and the journey hours were worth it. My friends who accompanied me on this trip hadn't watched game of thrones so they were not as amused as I was but they admired the sculptures and delicacy too.

We visited the snow castle during our stay at Ylläs. It’s only 30 minutes drive. Got to admit that we were a bit sceptical on the quality and level of the handcraft to expect - but the castle really blew our minds off! What a spectacular piece of art and master piece of talented handcraft it is ❤️
Beyond everything the castle is built only in four weeks by around 30 professionals. Hats off.
It’s been a challenging year for the travel business and I can imagine that not building the castle has been an option too to balance the finance. I’m happy they still did it 💪🏽
Absolutely a place worth visiting.
Ps. There’s an ice slide open for grown-ups and an ice bar too 😅

We stayed here one night, check in is not whilst 22.00 but you get tour of hotel. You are allocated sleeping bags and pillow. Rooms have no doors and you have to walk to toilet's. You do not take anything in with you and any cloths are placed in the sleeping bag with you, shoes are on their side or upside down.
The rooms are very light, and the mattress not very comfy, thee is a warm room you can go to away from hotel.
The ice bar stops serving at 8pm like everywhere in Finland so due to check in times we missed this.
It is a very strange experience to say the least, the temp is between 0c and -5.
It was one of the bucket list ticked but wouldn't try it again.

What a great way to start a new year. We visited the snow village with our family and really enjoyed all the snow and ice sculptures. This place is really a piece of art and shows a great craftsmanship. The service was nice and polite. After the tour in the village we had a dinner in the restaurant. There is two options for dining the inside restaurant and the ice restaurant. The food was good (nothing special) and the service I the restaurant was very good.

We visited Snow Village on our drive from Kittilä airport to Ylläs, and it was definitely worth the it. The art is incredible, I never realised it's possible to to all this with snow and some well placed lights. The site was also much larger than we expected. Well worth the 18€ and the time!

I thought that this was pretty average and it didn't do much for me although my wife thought that it was good.
I wandered through several ice rooms that were supposed to be representing different places in the world.
Some of the rooms had beds in and I was thinking that anyone that stayed here for a night must be off their trolley. It would not be something that I would pay for.
There was a bar in one of the rooms.
There was a café and an ice restaurant. Well they certainly won't run out of ice for the drinks will they?
It's not my thing but some people will like it. As I said, my wife liked it.

Hello, my sister is thinking of getting married here, hopefully the ice chapel, can anyone tell me as we haven’t had a reply yet, is the chapel only available at certain times of year or all Winter? Thanks

What a wonderful idea, you will really enjoy it I'm sure, best make inquiries early as I would imagine it could get booked up as it is open to pubic every day and yours will be special and I'm sure you will not want every tom, Dick and Harry popping into the chapel and taking pictures
If you decide not to marry there still go and see, it's wonderful what they can do and something you will never forget

Hello Paul,
I would recommend you to book this from your tour operator if this is possible.
Othervise, what I know, the only way to get there is by car or taxi, and that will cost propably about 70€ (oneway)because it takes about 30 min to drive from Ylläs to Snowvillage.
You could also write email to snowvillage ( at ) laplandhotels(.) com and ask if they have daily bussroute from Ylläs to Snowvillage.
Hope you enjoy your holiday.
Remember to take warm clothes and shoes with you when you come. -22 C at the moment. ;)

Bonjour.

For those who have stayed in the snow village, would you recommend for a family with two kids aged 6 and 9? I noticed the village is open until 10pm each night. We will be flying out of the Australian summer so obviously it's going to be freezing. Is the bedding going to be warm enough upon the layers of clothes that we will wear?

Yes it will be just fine, it is cold at -5 but they are well equipped and the experience will be fab for all.
