I am not a snob but I didnt like it. I was expecting more for this landmark. don't get me wrong, it is nice but Goteborg has better looking churches around to reveal old architecture, Annedalskyrkan, Hagakyrkan, etc. It doesn't have the old feel. It is the Cathedral because is it central and it has a history but the looks now do not resemble any history at all. too new and too commercial, it might host nice concerts but not my idea of a cathedral. Worth to pass by but, for me, after all it is just another church.

Immaculate inside with an even more impressive exterior, Gustavi Cathedral is certainly one of the more stunning churches in Göteborg. It’s a must visit when in the city centre.

The Cathedral in Göteborg is located in the heart of the city. The current Cathedral was consecrated in 1815, it was built after the old one burnt down in 1802. Actually, it is the third to be built on the same spot, the first being consecrated in 1633.

Architect Carl Wilhelm Carlberg designed the cathedral in classical style. It was first consecrated in 1815, but a second inhaugeration was held in 1827, after the tower was completed. It is dedicated to Gustavus Adolphus who died in battle the year before the first cathedral was consecrated. The current edifice is 59 meters long and 38 meters wide and the tower stands 53 meter high. The angelic figures sculpted on the altar by Jacques Adrien Masreliez in baroque style and the grandfather clock made by Olof Rising were salvaged from the fire.

This is a pleasant chuch located in the City Centre. It is nice to look at from the outside. The inside for me was ok. There is a tram stop right outside the building. Check opening times before visiting.

Gothenburg Cathedral is the seat of the bishop of the diocese of Gothenburg in the Church of Sweden.

The present cathedral is the third to be built on the same ground. It was built in 1815 and the style is Classical.

The first one was built in 1633 and it was named Gustavi church after King Gustav II Adolf. This church was destroyed in 1721 and the second one in 1802.

The interior has various styles, mainly classical and Empire style.

We arrived at 7.30am on the 24th December to experience a very moving Christmas service in Swedish complete with a choir and candles.

The Cathedral was not open when I visited, but it was a sunny, nice day and I enjoyed sitting in the courtyard-like area situated in the front. It is really a beautiful building and the plants in the courtyard area are well maintained and nice to sit around.

This is a lovely peaceful place to stop awhile. It is fairly plain and white inside with golden decorations.

A small cathedral compared to many however very attractive inside and I would imagine an excellent location for a wedding as well as normal services.

It was quite peaceful visiting the church in the middle of the day. It's interiors are nice and clean and offer an insight to its history and design. The location is central and is easily accessible. Worth a visit.
