Visited the Universeum with 2 young children in February.
We really enjoyed our visit to the Universeum. There is so much to do across multiple floors. Across the different floors there were Science themed activities, health themed activites. There was a floor dedicated to space with different activities for the children. There was a good sized aquarium with plenty of information, talks etc were given.
The different activities are located around the outer edges of the building and running through the middle is a rainforest with rope bridges and good viewing points. There were various animals to be seen in the rainforest and it was a really good idea, it was well laid out and the kids (and adults) loved it.
Location wise it was very close to a tram stop so very easy to access. Around 10 minutes on the tram from outside central station. It was excellent value for money. There was a restaurant inside. Plenty of toilet facilities and they also have free lockers available which is really handy when you are travelling with bags etc.
Would definitely recommend if you are visiting Gothenburg with children.

What a surprise to find a tropical rain forest in the middle of Gothenburg. We loved it! The museum has clever attentions with lots of folks around to answer your questions. So many species of plants and animals and birds and reptiles. Make sure you take the cobra reflex reaction test!!! Worth a 2 hour visit.

We decided to visit Universeum as part of the Gothenburg City Pass. As an indoor attraction it would be good to escape the cold for a few hours, or so we thought... The upstairs aquarium exhibit felt like we were outdoors, brr. We quickly descended to the next floor down, which was warmer and of course the jungle area was tropical. However, the kids exploration areas were much cooler due to the large windows and big open spaces. We finally ended up spending most of the time in the basement where there is a large toddlers play zone. Overall we were a bit disappointed not to see any monkeys although the shark tank was nice. Probably better suited for older kids ages 5-12 or so.

Very well laid out museum on 6 levels to enjoy for big and little children. With our 2 and 3 year old girls we spent approx 2 hours there and it was enough as they got to spend a lot of time enjoying the aquarium, the rainforest and the bugs display.
There is a lot more to do for older kids with interactive and educational activities in space, the hub and the heath and lab areas on floors 2 & 3. Ours were still a bit young but we will have to come back.
On the lower level, a nice play area for the smaller kids was appreciated. There’s even a little kitchen area there to feed babies with microwave.
On ground floor, there is a little cafe and usually a restaurant I believe which was closed when we went. It was a Monday though but we appreciated it as it was fairly empty.

I visited Universeum in august of 2020, and I must say it was incredible!
The experience was both fun and educational, and I would say it’s suitable for anyone, no matter age or interest. There’s something for everyone at this science center. Although I’d say it’s more suitable for people who’s interested in animals such as fishes, birds or snakes.
Keep in mind that you need several hours for this activity, I’d recommend 2-4 hours of time.

The single worst nightmare in Sweden. Full of uncontrolled, badly behaved, screaming children running riot. Very surprised by the local (lack of) parenting. Adults just letting kids do what the hell they want. Could be good if there were 3 x fewer people allowed in at any time and staff around the exhibits to stop the uncontrolled behaviour.

From the outside you would not guess what was hidden in this building! Something for everyone! As we had small children we concentrated on the aquarium and rainforest areas which they thoroughly enjoyed as did the grown ups. Recommend that you take up the locker as coats are not needed!!! (It's very warm). Children under 3 are free and 2 adults were approx £36 but if you are likely to return there are some excellent deals!

Enjoyed 3 hours here with my 17 year old daughter. The animals were fantastic and appeared to be very healthy and happy. The remainder of the museum is geared toward young children. Still worth OUR time.

Universeum is a great way to spend a couple hours in Göteborg. Its split into a couple of sections including an aquarium, reptile house and rainforest. Very relaxing and not overly busy if you pick your time right.
I wouldn’t plan an entire day around it, you can cover it all in about 2 hours. It’s roughly about £18 for an adult entry which is about the going rate for this sort of thing.

The kids loved the live animal museum as they called it. The rainforest experience was great although the monkeys were quarantined. All areas were super interesting and well done. Pricey especially the kids entry I found a bit high.

Is the Universeum recommended to be visited on rather hot days? I‘m asking to find out whether there is air conditioning.
Thanks in advance.

Absolutely no - we visited it on a warm day - like 25 degrees outside and it was impossible to breathe inside..

Universeum is best discovered without stroller. Stroller parking is available on level 1. Babybjörn and baby stroller locks are available for loan in the guest service.
All parts of the waterway can not be reached by a stroller. Prams are not allowed in the Kemilabbet and Rainforest. Follow signs to take you past the Rainforest with a stroller.

Hello. What size are the lockers in Universeum? We'll be checking out of our hotel and was wondering if we can store a small carry on luggage in there. Thanks.

I agree better to keep it in Hotel. The lockers are smaller so your bags might not fit in. You can keep the same in central station as well.
