About
Welcome to one of the largest botanical gardens in Northern Europe. The cultivated part occupies 40 acres and holds about 12 000 species. It is a botanical garden with a strong emphasis on horticulture and the garden is divided into different sections linked by lawns with fine trees and shrubs. You will find a kitchen garden, a herb garden, perennial and annual borders, a Japanese glade, a rhododendron valley and a stunning rock garden with a waterfall. In the bulb garden you find species that are not grown anywhere else. The Greenhouses have more than 4 000 species including a large collection of orchids and carnivorous plants. The Eastern Island tree, extinct in its natural locality, is preserved here. The garden is bordering a nature reserve where also the arboretum is located.

Although we visited in January, which was slightly bleak, these gardens were beautiful and extensive. We particularly enjoyed he Japanese Dell and the view point form the top of the rock gardens. The greenhouses had a vast array of tropical plants and provided a bit of warmth and shelter!

Only 15 minutes from the central station on the tram and a short walk - highly recommend to while away some time in fresh and beautiful surrounds. There is no entry fee, but a suggested donation at the main gate, and then again if you want to enter the greenhouses.

Always open, you visit for free(or give a small donation in the entrance). Lot of flowers, trees amd exhibitions. In winter you should visit the tropical house with flowers/trees from all over the world. Cloe by you also got anggardsbergen(meadow courtyard mountains) where you see trees from other parts of the world. You also see animals like moose, deers and insects from the northern parts of earth. Bring your camera and take some wonderful pictures.

I recently visited Gothenburg for work and went running through the Botanical Garden during a free afternoon. The garden is really beautiful (although I was a bit early for the best display of flowers) and well maintained. Although it was very busy on a lovely spring Sunday, one could still find some piece and quiet by straying from the main path. I also found some great gifts in the gift shop, so overall I was very pleased with my short visit.

Plan on spending an entire day if you have the time. There is so much to see and explore. The varied gardens are beautiful and the signage is excellent. We spent 4+ hours there and left because we needed to somewhere else. Definitely a must see.

One of the first places to visit when in Gothenburg must be Botaniska. Any time of the year, but preferably when sunny, the botanical garden is always beautiful! But even more in May or June, when all the flowers have bloomed and are showing their colours.

Whether you are an expert in plants or you just wanna wander and enjoy the view of a beautiful place, you need to visit the Botaniska.

Gothenburg botanical garden is one of the largest in Europe. I is about 1 750 000 square meters and houses about 16 000 species. Ängårdsbergen nature reserve next to it also houses the Arboretum (tree collection). It is about 6000 trees of about 300 species from Europe, Asia and North America. From the beginning the aim of this arboretum was to find out good tree species for forestry
The Rhododendron valley has about 100 species of Rhodondron and Azalea.
a few minutes away in Visippsdalen (anemone valley) the the Tawny Owl usually have 2 or 3 chicks in april . If you are careful and bring binoculars perhaps you may see some of them or the adult owls.
The orchids in the greenhouses has flowers in springtime or in autumn depending on the species. The spring flowering species will be best from middle of march and a month. In another greenhouse there are beautiful flowers of different cactus.
In the greenhouse there also is a specimen of toromiro (Sophora toromiro) from Rapa Nui (Easter Island). It is extinct in the wild but is survived at 11 botanical gardens in the world.
But if you don´t care to hard of science it is worth a visit just for a walk in the wonderful park and all colors of the flowers. The entrence is voluntary except to the greenhouses, there is a small fee. In wintertime thre are a lot of nice flowers in the tropical and desert part of the greenhouse. In winter i also recommend a visit to the birdbreeeding utside the walll next the cafeteria. Not so rare birds, but a plenty of species and som squirrels also.

Definitely one of the best botanical gardens in Sweden! About 3-4 km from city center this amazing place absolutely recommended to visit! Beautiful plants with descriptions, nice waterfall, great atmosphere, helpful and polite staff and stunning nature mostly in city center! We will come back!

The ambience was great, with a lot of green and cherry blossoms to welcome the spring. We visited on 19th April and it was quite nice. There were lots of greens and some flowers around. But when we went further up, it's brown everywhere, all the soils were stuck with labels of the plants but nothing was there. Probably better to go later when the nicer plants and flowers are planted.
