The Skansen Kronan is a small defensive fortress overlooking the city from above. It is located at the foot of the Haga district, on the left of the map. Through a zigzag path you can climb to the fortress that unfortunately you can not visit from the inside. Externally, however, it is wonderful and impressive and offers several panoramic views of the city.

We climbed up for the views and it was definitely worth it. Great panoramic views of the city all of the way down to the river. You can access it either via a set of stairs or a winding path on the other side - the path is still steep but may be better for those who have trouble with the stairs.

The tower is easily accessible from the main road in Haga.
The climb is not challenging and can be done either via stairs or a pedestrian street.
Walking around the tower you can enjoy a view of the whole city.

Skansen Kronan is on top of the hill. It’s good for a paronamic view of Goteborg. You can’t go inside the building though. Haga (old town area) is just at the bottom of it, so you can visit both at the same time.

Just up the hill from the Haga area, worth the walk for the fantastic views over Gothenburg. Once you have had a look around just sit on the grass and relax. 17th Century redoubt a real piece of history to see. I couldn't go inside and not sure if you can these days as it's a function venue but glad I made the short trip after coffee in Haga.

It's fine. Worth a look. Interesting looking building and nice chance to sit somewhere at the top. Probably not worth taking a trip across the city to see it, but good if you're on the route from Haga/downtown to the park.

Was really snowy when we went so take care when going up the stairs to reach the top!
Such a beautiful view once you get at the top!
The cafes and shops arent too far so once youve taken pictures, there quite a variety of places to have a quick bite!

The fortress on Risasberget Hill has been watching over the city since 1689 but has never been in any battles. The stones in the building are suppose to have come from the old fortress of Elfsborg and the roof was added in 1700. It has four floors and the walls are 4-5 metres thick. Visitors can access it by climbing steep stairs at the end of Kaponjargaten in the Haga district or by a paved walking path that begins on Skanstorget. There is, also, a road so visitors can drive to the top. The fortress is currently closed to the public but is available for private functions such as weddings and other special celebrations. In the past it was used as a prison, residence, and a military museum.
The views of the city from the hill are very good but I bet the ones from the top of the fortress use to be fantastic. There are a few cannons on the property and the peak of the roof has a large crown on it. Information to learn about the fortress is posted. We enjoyed the experience and exercise and wished that we had brought a picnic. The views while climbing the almost 200 steps were lovely as well and it did I not take that long to get to the top. Ensure that you hold the railing to ensure a safe climb.

The climb is not bad & there are two ways to reach this (via steps or via flat steps).
This offers fantastic views & is 100% with the ‘climb’. It’s only 5 mins from the Gaga district.
There’s also a ‘coffee hut’ underneath the tower. Sells drinks, coffee, ice creams & delicious waffles - pop in if you’re up there!
100% recommend the shop & this viewpoint.

Climb the steps to get a great view over Gothenburg. There is a cafe and some benches up there. Not sure what the fort is now but it’s nice to look at.
