It's a special experience studying these carving that were made over 3000 years ago! I spent well over an hour trying to figure out the numerous boats, people, animals and symbols, which you can get really close to. There are several information boards, with interesting texts in Swedish, English and German.

The location is easy to find on google maps: it's to the west of town, labelled as Hällristningar. The walk from town along the river is lovely. Word of warning if you visit in summer: the site of the carvings has zero shade and it can get oppressively hot around midday. Fortunately you can stop off at the nearby Himmelstalundsbadet for an ice cream and a drink.

Several rock faces with Bronze Age drawings of ships, swords, animals and people. The best «helleristninger» I’ve seen after the ones in Tanum near the border with Norway. About 400 m to walk from the free parking area, and no entry fee.

Finding the viking rock carvings proves difficult because the name Himmelstalund seems to refer to everything around. Find the swimming pool and a path next to it leads into the large grass meadows, turning into a boardwalk where you find the carvings some 800 mtr. further. The carvings shows boats, animals etc and are clearly marked in red. They are flat on the ground and not covered. Of course the visit to the park as well as parking is free.

Very old figures carved into the rocks in this park. There are several carvings to find, but the whole area is not too big. It's a longer walk from the city center, along the cemetery. Be cautious and do not to step on the carvings, as you can easily ruin them,

Very cool site, nice setting in a park, and a nice walk to get there from Norrköping. Highly recommend downloading the app Norrköpings Stadsmuseum which gives a lot of extra info in text and some audio.

There is a nice park around. Come here if you like walking. The rock carvings themselves don't suggest any significant scenery. It's even hard to see them on the stones. But if you're interested in history it can be exciting.

Had some extra time in Norrköping so went to find these rocks. Walked through the park by the cemetery and under the road by the swimming pool. Then it’s a short sign posted walk up to them. Very quiet place by a campsite and I was the only person there looking at the rocks. There’s information boards that tell you what you’re looking at- in English too. Some of the markings are very clear and so well preserved.

First of all, the museum's closed. There are guided tours of the carvings with an archeologist, but very seldom, something like once a month in the summer season. It's a great area for a walk, maybe a picnic, but there could have been so much more to do around the rocks. And the information provided on site is rather basic.

I was impressed with the quality of these rock carvings. A nice walking path was built so that you can easily reach the rocks without damaging them.
The park where the rock carvings are is quite nice - bring some food and enjoy the quietness!

This site is one of Sweden largest showings of Bronze age rock carvings. It is really interesting and the expo tries to give you an insite in the culture and beliefs of the time. Pity that the info in German and English is not as comprehensive as the Swedish.
There is easy parking, (free) at Himmelstalund bathing park and just a 400m walk up to the carvings. The site is suitable with access for wheelchairs Been there several times with visiting guests. They don't have these in USA
