The streets leading to the Zemun center are old narrow
and virtually take you back to 18th century .
In the heart of old Zemun, right underneath the medieval Fortress of Gardos ,lays Nikolajevska Church built in1731 as memorial to the
relics of St.Nikola.
Zemun is easily reached by bus from Belgrade after a short trip through New Belgrade. Zemun is a charming Austro-Hungarian town, well worth visiting, not least for the nice restaurants alongside the River Danube.
While simple on the outside, the interior of this 18th century church is really impressive. You can see the original frescoes fading, somewhat covered, almost haunting in their presence. The altar is very beautiful.
