This square is located in the Södermalm district in the popular SoFo (south of Folkungagatan) area.

It has been a venue for open-air markets as well as a locals hangout from the 17th century. There are old historical buildings around the square.

Today, there are cafes and popular bars and restaurants at Nytorget.

In October, it was quite average square.

Full of surprises. The square itself is nice not more. Many nice restaurants surrounding it (we tried Nytorget 6 and were not disappointed). Nice walk on Nytorgsgatan and Bondegatan with many concept stores and interesting shops. We accidentally entered into the 6/5/4 store on number 27 Nytorgsgatan that is really a curiosity. They have a tiny coffee shop and sell clothing, shoes as well as surf and outdoors equipment!

It mixes old and new, trendy and historical, restaurants and cafes - this square perhaps most similar to a small park and is also among the most typical district of Södermalm. Although it occasionally is quite crowded here so it is at once serene and life has a different tempo (probably due to the absence of greater amount of car traffic). Some old wooden houses from the late 1700s testify about old times ... More 'Sodermalm' than this is hard to find!

We tried to find a decent restaurant at this square but found them very overprized. If you walk only a few blocks away you will find much more genuine places to much better value for your money. We had an icecream and sat on a bench at the park/square. During the hour we were there we were confronted by six persons begging for money. It wasn´t very nice at all cause they were very pushy. We understand the area is popular among younger people, maybe we are too old to find the charm in this.

This park used to be a tranquil haven for people here on eastern parts of Södermalm island. The old historical buildings round this square and park give a very special atmosphere. There has been a very popular and good ice-cream shop for years here. In the last 15 years the place has developed more and more to a playground for the youth. Young students gather here have picnic or just sit and relax. Somewhy the city decided to put out fake grass instead of taking care of the park. Also the old shops disappeared and were changed to cafes or small restaurants. Now the place is crowded with young people visiting the cafes and restaurants. Since a few years this is also a center for the beggars that swipe around here along the outdoor terraces and harass every other visitor in the park. If you sit here it doesnt take many minutes before they come to ask for money. I miss the old tranquil Nytorget.

Locals from the neighborhood and visitors use the little lawn as a meeting place, picnic area. With several restaurants that offer take-out and an ice cream across the street, means that many choose to take their meals here.A certain hip factor over the place.
