Neighborhood: Djurgården & Djurgårdsbrunn
The island of Djurgården and its northern mainland extension, Djurgårdsbrunn, impress with a mix of nature and an abundance of museums, while being located in walking distance to Stockholm’s city center. Djurgården not only invites visitors to take endless walks through a beautiful park landscape without having to leave the city, but also offers an incredible range of entertainment facilities, such as an open air museum which specializes in the Swedish way of life pre-industrialization, the renowned Vasa Museum with its legendary sailing ship, and Sweden’s most famous amusement park Gröna Lund, which is more than a 100 years old.

We spent a long afternoon here - so much to see and do! I loved the reenactments of olden days with people in period dress and serving authentic foods. I particularly enjoyed visiting the old church at the top of the park, where our hosts own parents had been married over 50 years ago. Sweden is fortunate to have its ORIGINAL historical building preserved, unlike other European countries where so much had been destroyed during the two world wars. Being from the USA, we found it totally remarkable that everyone we met in Sweden spoke perfect English. We think Sweden is about the most "perfect" place anyone could live in Europe (but we haven't been there do live through a dark winter! LOL.

We went to Skansen for a slow Sunday enjoying the sunny weather. At first we were kind of spooked that there was a fee to enter on top of entering Skansen itself but immediately after entering we encountered monkeys and we were hooked. We had a blast seeing the different kind of animals and it was worth every krona! Totally recommend it!

My family and I thought the Skansen aquarium was a fantastically fun experience. Very cozy both during the summer but also now during the cold winter. Saw that a few more new animal species had arrived since the last time we were there too, so it was fun😊 my little siblings thought it was great fun and interesting both in the animal facility but also in the shop. Definitely worth a visit

It's really not worth the money. Feels very worn and in need of renovation. Reminds a bit of going into a pet store. The terrariums feel too small and there is a lack of thought behind the whole place.

The place is easy enough to get to and is interesting even if you do not have kids with you but it definitely is set up for kids. It's easy to get around and was not as big as we thought it was going to be. We both felt like it was similar to ther places we have visited and so we felt like we didn't really need to see this place but they do a good job showing what life was like back then.

Be warned a few of the reviews on here are for Skansen in general not just for the aquarium.
This is a bog standard aquarium and you have to pay extra to go in. Nextdoor is a new aquarium that is free to enter (once you're in Skansen). We did both and think you could skip this one and just do the free one.

In my opinion, the aquarium is very poor value for money at SEK 120 for adults and SEK 60 for children. You could argue that having paid quite a high entrance fee for Skansen, this feature should either be free or at the very least, a minor supplement to the entrance price. Although it does what it says, it isn't really that large and you can easily go round in 45 minutes. I can't honestly recommend it.

A very interesting part of the Skansen-open-air-museum is the aquarium. It keeps within a lot of esotic animals (snakes, monkeys, crocodiles, insects etc.) as well as various species of tropical fish.

After having spent close to a full day at the Open Air Museum, we walked down toward the exit and noticed a sign for this activity. Although it does have the name "Skansen", this is not part of the open air museum and separate admission is required. With the Stockholm card, this represented good value
What I liked: Nice tropical and rainforest area - with different types of apes, lizards, crocodiles, birds and so on. There is also an aquarium area but this was not as impressive as the tropical area. Fairly quick to get through this mini-zoo
What to Watch for / could be improved: Not a ton to see and do, but a nice way to wrap a visit to Skansen - with the extra fee
