Fjällgatan is a street located high up on the edge of a cliff with a panoramic view of the city.

This street and the nearby streets are lined with historic wooden buildings from the 1700s.

At the moment, there are big construction works going on in the street below.

Fjallgatan, on the island of Sodermalm and high up on a cliff edge offers panoramic views over Stockholm. You can see Gamla Stan or Old Town, the museum island of Skeppsholmen and the island of Djurgarden, which is home to the Vasa Museum, ABBA Museum and Nordiska Museum. Also on Djurgarden is the Grona Lunds Tivoli, the huge amusement park with 29 rides! Looking to your right is the Stadsgarden Cruise Terminal and Viking Line Terminal. There is so much to see, with constant activity on both land and water. Well worth visiting!

Fjällgatan is "just" a ordinary street, but it is easy accessible, free and offers a good view over Old Town, Skeppholmen (a small island in the city) and eastside Stockholm ("Östermalm", where the fashionable people live...;-).
Even if you have short of time when visiting Stockholm, going there could be well used time.
Go to Underground station Slussen and take a short walk, or take bus 2 or 3.
At Fjällgatan you will find "Hermans", a really good vegetarian restaurant. The surroundings has a few more restaurants, a chocolate shop and the Photographic museum (you can see it down under Fjällgatan).

Historic environment located high up on the edge of a cliff with a fantastic view of the city. Fjällgatan’s Kaffestuga café is charming and popular.
The blocks around Fjällgatan, Stigbergsgatan, Mäster Mikaels Gata, Fiskargatan, and Södra Teatern are lined with well-preserved wooden buildings from the 1700s on one side and a magnificent view on the other.

If you are an avid photographer, you must make sure to get up to Fjallgatan. The view if fantastic and you'll get some wonderful pictures of the city and the harbour. There are several nice cafes and ice cream shops.

Initially I thought the Fjallgatan is the place with only series of Sweden houses. I tried to find any iconic building from my canal tour but I was unable to find any behind the museum of Photography.

On the last day in Stockholm, I was staying in Sodermalm and I decided to walk in the morning to Fjallgatan. I discovered that it is an excellence observation platform. It is actually a hill that you can view the entire port by zooming the camera. I was able to shoot the pictoric Stockholm port just like those pictures that I found in anywhere about Stockholm.

It is easy to reach from Medborgarplatsen T-bana station. It is about 15 minutes walking from the station to Fjallgatan. Using GPS is good or asking anyone for direction.

Definitely the best place to get a great view over the beautiful city. Nice stroll from Slussen, though a bit uphill.

All the tour buses visit this street, as well as all the knowledgeable tourists. This street is a couple of blocks from our flat, and we always bring visitors here for an over view of the city, as well as for delicious ice cream. Take the bus or walk from Slussen and enjoy a beautiful location filled with charming old houses as well as the view.

I marked this street down on our map because it was on trip advisor. We went because we were already at Fotografika and it's just up the stairs from there, so we thought to take the hike up there. It was a good view, but it's not that much better than the view you can get from elsewhere in the city. It's not worth hiking all the way up there if you're not already on the other side of town. If you're interested in the old buildings, it's better just to stick to the old town.

Our friend, who grew up in that area, took us on a walk up Fjallgatan and it was one of the best things we did in Stockholm. Great views and a great look at some of the oldest wooden buildings still standing in Stockholm, a MUST SEE.
