Lovely, beautiful, small island. Everything you would expect from this popular island. Typical Swedish village and houses. Especially the ones with sea view are the best. Pitty though that their properties run right up to the coast line, which makes it uncomfortable, if not impossible...More

I've visited the island after reading the reviews here and on other tourist websites, but there's basically nothing open except the restaurant. There are no tourists at all, only people working on the island. The museum was closed. I headed to a beach and swam...More

Wear comfortable shoes to walk around this pretty island and explore the woods, beaches and the little village. We brought a picnic lunch and sat on a beach by the sea with a fantastic view!

You can only get there by boat which takes about 3 hours one way. You pass through the main archipelago of Stockholm. The Island is a nice opportunity to stroll around, have a bath and eat lunch.

Sandhamn Island is one of the outer islands of the archipelagos outside Stockholm harbour. To get there I caught Cinderella 2, a ferry that runs between Strandvägen in Stockholm harbour and Sandhamn. The ferry takes two hours one way and weaves between the thousands of...More

We took a day trip on a super-crowded (no place to sit!) ferry out to Sandhamn Island, just to get away from the city for a bit. It took 2 hours to get there. Sandhamn is a rocky little island, full of vacation houses, a...More

It is almost not enough time to go there just for a day trip. We went there from Vaxholm which gives you not more time on the island but shortens the whole trip by at least an hour. If you can I'd possibly recommend that...More

I can’t answer the question about the canal but in relation to time on the island; if you don’t want to walk to the beach/swim or sunbathe for long, then a couple of hours is more than enough to have a potter round/buy a... More
