It was an easy walk from where we were staying near the central station.

The views are very rewarding and it was a lovely place for a stroll- one family seemed to be having a picnic so it might be a nice option for that too.

This spot was recommended by my walking tour guide. I took the metro to Mariatorget and walked to Monteliusvagen. This is short shady path with great views of Stockholm from up the hill. It takes no more than one hour. So, it worth combining this walk with Mariatorget, St. Mary Magdalene Church and Sodermalm. Google Maps will work perfectly to get around.

This 500-meter long walking path goes on the cliff of Mariaberget.

You have magnificent views of Lake Mälaren, Stockholm City Hall, and Riddarholmen.

The path is lined with charming houses on one side and a beautiful view on the other side.

A great reward if you can manage crossing though the Slussen construction - act like a local and complain about it - especially in the evening. A wonderful view of both Gamla Stan and modern areas, with small terraces to sit.

Monteliusvagen is, IMHO, the best panoramic view of Stockholm, much better than Fjallgatan, where cruise liners obstract the view (at least when we were there). It may take an effort to get to Monteliusvagen (do your homework), but it is definitely worth the effort.

I would say this is a must visit in Stockholm since it’s not as touristy and it’s free! The walk to the viewpoint provided some good exercise. It’s within walking distance from Gamla Stan. Since we started from somewhere near Stockholm City Hall, we disembarked from a nearby metro station and walked from there. We struggled a bit with the Google Maps as it kept us looping around the perimeter, so it’s better to have an idea of its location, use your instinct, follow the sign, and you’ll definitely be there.

Once you're up there, you’ll be rewarded with the panoramic view of Lake Malaren and the iconic architectures and sites of Stockholm although it was marred by some construction sites. Although it’s recommended to go for the sunset, the colour was not that spectacular but the charming view compensated for its shortfall. Do not forget Skinnarviksberget, another viewpoint which is only a few hundred meter away.

It was our first time coming to Monteliusvagen and we did it because of the many positive reviews we've got about it. We were not dissapointed! Even better - we've found this more peaceful than Fjallgatan and with a better view over the city.
