This is the best place for tourists to stay when visiting Stockholm. There is the Central Station where all the transports are available. There are many restaurants to dine in and stores to shop. Lastly, there are many tourist attractions to visit here as well, mostly 5-10 minutes away from each other.

Norrmalm is a great district to use as a base for your visit to Stockholm, not necessarily because of what it has to offer itself, but because it is so centrally located. Think of it as your centre point as you see it on a map – a short walk right and you are in Ostermalm, a short walk left and you are in Kungsholmen, a short walk up and you are in Vasastan and a short walk down and you are in Gamla Stan (the Old Town, and my favourite district, but I was still glad to have my accommodation in Norrmalm). Norrmalm is where you will find the Central Station and Arlanda Express depot, so if you’re flying into Arlanda airport, Norrmalm really is the easiest place to get to. There’s also a cluster of reasonably priced hotels in the area – Nordic C, Nordic Light, Scandic Hotel Grand Central and Freys (where I stayed and would strongly recommend). I would probably describe Norrmalm as the main (affordable) shopping district (Ostermalm is where you’ll find the designer labels) – Drottninggatan is home to a wealth of High Street shops, so if you’ve forgotten to pack something you’ll certainly be able to find it here. Even if you’re not a keen shopper, Drottinggatan is still worth a walk up/down – at the top end is the observatory museum (which means you have reached Vasastan) and at the bottom is a bridge that takes you directly to the Royal Palace (which means you have reached the Old Town). If I could recommend one restaurant in Norrmalm it would be Bistro Bestick, which offers an upmarket dining experience at an affordable price. If you want to party the night away, head to Berns – restaurant, bar and club, open until the early hours. Also, a lovely Aladdin’s cave of a shop on Vasagatan is Cordon Bleu – a baker’s/cook’s dream!
We also easily reached Sodermalm (as far as you’re probably going to want to go South) and Djurgarden on foot, though you will need good mobility and a little endurance for this!

Stockholm is one of the dirties cities we have been to.
A massive amount of cigarette butts all over the city and paper on the streets. The side streets to e.g. Drottninggatan are filthy.
Young as old throws everything on the streets. This goes for parks, children's playgrounds as well.
It seems to be a "human right" to throw trash and cigarette butts all over and if you comment this you are verbally threatened.
The so called environment party and their alike seem not to care for local order and are according to information spending their time for international issues instead!
There seems to be no one to follow up the catastrophic filthy situation on Stockholm's street and the locals seem not to understand or care!
Clean up the city. Use the media continuously for propaganda how to show consideration to each other.
It is really awful.

Norrmalm is the central, mostly modern area of Stockholm. Chances are your hotel will be here, you will travel through Stockholm Central train station and you will eat some of your meals here. But most of your sightseeing will be on the more picturesque, attraction filled island such as Gamla Stan, Södermalm and Djurgården. We spent our days on these islands and our evenings in Norrmalm. There are many good hotels within a reasonable walk of these other islands. We stayed at Freys which we loved. There are many great restaurants too. There are shopping areas here too but not something we focused on.

The most central area of Stockholm city is Norrmalm between Stureplan with the mushroom "Svampen", Hötorget and the royal garden "Kungsträdgården". Here you have the most fancy stores in Stockholm, a lot of places to get a coffe break "Fika", food or night clubs. At "Biblioteksgatan" (Library street) you have the most expencive stores in Stockholm and on the side of that street you have some of the best stores like "SOL" a girls store or in Sture gallerian you have a very good shirt store. In Kungsträdgården you have Fridays where the food usually fits everybody and it´s a little bit more American style. If you want fika I like Espresso House with free internet access and is a nice place to hangout. If you want to go to the biggest club in Stockholm you have Solidaritet very close to Stureplan if you are between 21-30 years old. If you are older you have Golden Hits which is very relaxed at Kungsgatan or Cafe Opera at Kungsträdgården which is a little bit more fancy.

Norrmalm in Stockholm is also known as the "city" (or to some people it means new town) contrasting from the Gamla Stan (the old town), which is being divided by a walkway and bridge over a promenade.
The former comprise of many shopping malls and stores, tall, big, modern and new commercial buildings, beside those boutique and independent stores around the area, including an open air fresh flowers and fruits market. And the latter would present a more historical and cultural aspects of Stockholm with centuries year old shophouse buildings, museums and churches. Both areas also have lots of restaurants, cafes, convenience and souvenir shops, makeshift stalls etc.
It's a breeze walking around here and all the lanes and roads are somehow interlinked and people here are generally friendly and helpful. When we were there after our city hall tour, it was closed to lunch time and the place (especially the F&B outlets) were packed with people. So you may have to wait for a seat but if you are short of time, having some finger food while doing your window shopping is recommended.
There were also street performers here and you could enjoy some really live singing while you roam or shop around!
We had about a good 3-hr break here and bought quite a number of souvenir items here before leaving Stockholm in the afternoon heading to Karlstad!
Recommended for a visit, especially the shopaholics!

Our lovely comfortable apartment was just off Valhallavägen. We enjoyed our many walks to the centre, along Nybrogatan and parallel streets. Our first afternoon we passed the unique Ostermalms Saluhall and visited Hallwyl Museum, a grand introduction to the city.
Karlavagen and Valhallavägen are wonderful boulevards with a fine central linear park. The former passes through Karlaplan with its great fountain.
There are so many attractions, encompassing museums, art galleries, the opera house, gorgeous churches and two magnificent libraries, State and Royal.
Churches we enjoyed included Jacobs Kyrka, exquisite Klara Kyrka and the wonderful Engelbrektskyrkan that was particularly impressive silhouetted in the moonlight on its commanding elevation.
The Historiska Museet had a superlative exhibition on the Vikings, as well as its major permanent collections. The Baroque Hall and the Gold Room were memorable.
Another route we enjoyed strolling along was the full length of Drottninggatan, predominantly pedestrianised, from its inception, passing Sergels Torg to Kungstensgatan and Observatorielunden which is a lovely park. It's a premier shopping street.
Close to our rental was the Olympic Stadium dating from the 1912 games. It is a wonderful sight. At the entrance is a plaque with a long list of records broken in 1912.
Lovely parks and green areas are plentiful. Berzelii Park has the delightful Berns Restaurant, while close by is peaceful Kungsträdgården with grand fountains and water features. Humlegården is lovely and additionally contains the classic Royal Library.
One afternoon we decided to walk to the marvellous Millesgården from Valhallavägen, along Lidingövägen and Norra Lanken, and crossing Gamla Lidingöbron that afforded panoramic views. It was fascinating to see up close this part of the city and port area. Travellers were making their way with luggage to the international ferries that were berthed along.

We chose to stay in this area - at the Radisson Blu Waterfront - and it was a great choice. Close to the Central Station and many of the other attractions we wanted to see. Lots of great shopping and restaurant choices as well. Easy walking and lovely views.

We stayed in a hotel right off of the pedestrian walkway, the cars in the intersecting roads get tired of People walking in front of them, then speed to cross the street. Nice pedestrian area, lot of shops and restaurants. There is a mentally ill older lady that walks up and down the pedestrian street.
