Worth the trip to the end of Djurgarden island

Fabulous turn-of-century (20th) collection in a beautiful setting. Lots of Munch if you are a fan. Nice (maybe a bit $$) cafe.

This is located at the far end of Djurgarden so while walking is possible but bus 69 has a stop just outside. Art work from different artists were on display so it is nice to visit this gallery.

I visited the Theil in early July of 2016 and found it to be charming and well curated. The galleries were well lit and the collection of modern Scandinavian artists was first rate. We had an opportunity to dine at the Theil Gallery and the food was good but limited in selection. The sunny dining areas and the garden seating... More

We spent a delightful afternoon at this gallery with many wonderful paintings of Scandanavian artists - including Munch, Larsson, Zorn, and others. Many wonderful paintings in a lovely art nouveau home designed to house Ernest Thiel's collection. The grounds are lovely as well. Another plus is the wonderful food in the cafe. One warning: the gallery is located on the... More

We went to the Thiel Gallery in order to get a better view of the August Strindberg views on Stockholm and on his new life. We got a lot of new stories and ideas about Strindberg.

This is way out on Djurgarden and worth the walk, you can of course cycle or drive to it. The walk follows the islands edge and you have some wonderful parkland to walk through. The musuem is quite small but it has a very reasonable collection of early 20th century Swedish artists. This end of the island is in sharp... More

An art noveau villa at Djurgården created for financier Ernest Thiel's magnificent art collection, designed by Ferdinand Boberg, completed in 1907. An art gallery representing Scandinavian painters like Munch, Jansson, Zorn, Larsson and Liljefors.

One of the finest art museums in Sweden, the Thiel Gallery exhibits a unique collection of Nordic late 19th and early 20th century art. Painters such as Edvard Munch, Carl Larsson, Bruno Liljefors and Anders Zorn form the basis of the banker Ernest Thiel’s collection.

Staying in Djurgarden & Djurgardsbrunn

Neighborhood Profile
Djurgarden & Djurgardsbrunn
The island of Djurgården and its northern mainland extension, Djurgårdsbrunn, impress with a mix of nature and an abundance of museums, while being located in walking distance to Stockholm’s city center. Djurgården not only invites visitors to take endless walks through a beautiful park landscape without having to leave the city, but also offers an incredible range of entertainment facilities, such as an open air museum which specializes in the Swedish way of life pre-industrialization, the renowned Vasa Museum with its legendary sailing ship, and Sweden’s most famous amusement park Gröna Lund, which is more than a 100 years old.
