Neighborhood: Djurgården & Djurgårdsbrunn
The island of Djurgården and its northern mainland extension, Djurgårdsbrunn, impress with a mix of nature and an abundance of museums, while being located in walking distance to Stockholm’s city center. Djurgården not only invites visitors to take endless walks through a beautiful park landscape without having to leave the city, but also offers an incredible range of entertainment facilities, such as an open air museum which specializes in the Swedish way of life pre-industrialization, the renowned Vasa Museum with its legendary sailing ship, and Sweden’s most famous amusement park Gröna Lund, which is more than a 100 years old.

Quite a long walk from town (there is a bus) through lovely countryside. The building is worth a visit on its own, and the cafe had wonderful cakes and pasteries. The most amazing part of the collection was a huge room with 8-10 wonderful Munch paintings. But there is quite a few other gems as well.

The Thielska Gallery from 1907 is located in a walled park at the far end of Blockhusudden on Djurgården. The architect's inspiration for the peculiar building comes from the Orient, Southern Europe and the late Art Nouveau style.A beautiful but rather long walk along the water will take you there, or a local bus with its final station.Thielska Galleriet is considered one of Stockholm's leading art museums. The unique collection from the turn of the last century contains artworks by, among others, Bruno Liljefors, Edvard Munch, Eugène Jansson, Carl Larsson, August Strindberg and Anders Zorn. The gallery also shows temporary exhibitions.Cafe offers The day's menu varies according to season and contains several dishes under headings such as "Soup of the day", "Special of the day" and "Salad of the day". In addition, many different types of home-baked pastries are offered. Almost worth a visit in itself

The building alone is spectacular. The collection is small, I was mainly interested in the Munch paintings (excellent collection) but a few other other interesting works too. Only disappointment was that so little of the house was open to view - only the galleries and exterior. I would have loved to see more of it.

Beautiful Swedish art in a beautiful building in a charming small garden at the peaceful end of Djurrgarden, reached by boat. Leave the boat at Blicksudde and it is a very short walk to the Gallery. There is also an excellent cafe. The paintings of an exotic landscape in the domed room are extraordinary.

No driving access for handicap people.

There is a parking down the road but you can only pay with app in your mobile.
So impossible to park if you don't have a mobile with you.
Parking intrusctions are only in Swedish.
Ridiculuous to have a paying parking in a place which islocated in the middle of the woods !!!
Not a welcoming place for foreign visitors.
A real histery in Stockholm is to pay the parkings with apps. RIdiculuous.

I visited this gallery on my own while my husband was in a conference in the city. I took the 69 bus, which was easy to find and so easy to use. After a 10 minute beautiful waterside bus ride through the city and then beautiful leafy scenery I arrived. The gallery is in the old house built by the banker Thiel which is in itself a work of art with large rooms and glass ceilings. His collection is stunning. The house has wonderful work by Edvard Munch, Swedish artists Carl Larsson, Bruno Liljefors and Eugène Jansson. Then in the main room were some stunning treats: a Gauguin, a beautiful Toulouse Lautrec and a Rodin sculpture. Don't miss it!

If you admire Munch, the 19th century or sculptures you should not miss this Gallery located at on hill with great viewpoints. Thielska offers superb artwork, a relaxed cafe and an interesting history that can be explored throughout the building. Besides the permanent collection their is always a solo show by a contemporary artist. The rooms are remarkable. Take a walk along the coast of take the bus 67. It seems far from the city center from the map but it is only 20 min. away.

We felt that this gallery was not worth either the long walk to get here nor the entry fee. They do not have any English information about the art works so it was hard to get a real understanding of what we were seeing. The collection is not that large so it didn't take that long to see. There were a few statues out in the back garden. I had read that the building has a dramatic setting and lovely views but all we could see were trees and another large house blocking any views. For us, this was a disappointment. We much preferred Prins Eugens Waldemarsudde.

High end art, in an amazing building!
Some of the best art in the world share this space. Take a walk along Djurgården, to the far end, and you'll stumble upon this gem. Open year round. A really nice cafe there too where you can grab a lunch or a fika.
