The Original Stockholm Ghost Walk and Historical Tour

467 reviews
If you think you've seen it all and heard it all in Stockholm, think again. This guided walking tour sheds new light (and a little darkness) on Stockholm's oldest neighborhood. As you follow the lantern light of your guide through the cobblestoned streets and alleyways, hear tales of ghosts, murder, and horror while getting a deeper insight into the history of Sweden's capital.

Östermalm is situated in the north-eastern Stockholm, bordering Norrmalm and Vasastan. It consists of 19th-century city-blocks, combined with vibrant tree-lined boulevards and upmarket shopping. It is an expensive area, having the highest housing prices in Sweden. For a tourist, it has much to offer: for example Strandvägen, Humlegården, Stureplan, History and Army Museum, Djurgården (Vasa and ABBA Museum, Grönalund, Skansen, etc.), and Kaknästornet. Also, many ferries and cruise ships arrive here in Värtahamnen or Frihamnen.

Until fairly recently Östermalm had been one of the least desirable neighborhoods in Stockholm. However, gentrification and urban renewal projects have transformed the neighborhood into one of the more fashionable area of Stockholm.

This is probably the best area to stay in for visiting Stockholm as a tourist. It's close to most of the other interesting places to see and you have a choice of using every kind of transportation you can think of. It has parks, museums, shopping, restaurants, boats, everything.
