Neighborhood: Östermalm
With its high-end shopping facilities and Michelin-starred restaurants, Östermalm is definitely the poshest part of central Stockholm. Here you will find Stockholm’s most majestic residential buildings, a beautiful market hall from 1888 displaying gourmet foods from around the world and the Swedish Royal Dramatic Theatre with its awe-inspiring architecture. At night, legendary nightclubs make the perfect location to observe the natives (and those aspiring to become natives of this exclusive neighborhood) in their natural habitat and to enjoy the latest produce of the Swedish house music scene.

From Djurgarden, we crossed a bridge and made our way to Nybroviken. It was a very busy place, lots of people catching ferries and other foot traffic activity going on here. Our adventure took us to this little park area which contains an amazing statue of a perfect (think David in Florence perfect) specimen, hammering memorial words on a column dedicated to John Ericsson (one letter" "s sometimes, two the rest of the time).
It isn't that the bust on top of the column is so memorable, it is all the stuff around the column that needs a second-look. Look at the gears and the propeller ... Ericson was the man who invented the screw-propeller that changed the nature of powering vessels for all time.
The figure showing hard at work in sculpting this monument is a study in the perfection of man. He carefully wields his tools to continue the engraving and his muscles ripple. For creativity, this is a perfect 10. Not many monuments have such an unusual approach to memorializing the subject.

Nybroviken is a small bay, which border the quays of Strandvägen and Nybrokajen.
It's a pleasant place to wander around and look at the islands. Right next to a park and some magnificent buildings such as the Royal Dramatic Theatre.

Nybroviken is a small bay, which separates the city district Östermalm from the peninsula Blasieholmen. North of the bay is Berzelii Park and Norrmalmstorg.
The quays of Strandvägen and Nybrokajen are bordering this bay. Nybroviken is an important departure point for ferries bound for Djurgården and the Stockholm Archipelago.
