About
Founded in 1867, Smaland’s Museum is Swedens oldest county museum. Permanent exhibitions present objects from the 19th and 20th century. Småland’s Museum has frequent temporary exhibitions presenting Kronoberg’s cultural history in the past, present and future. Smalands Museum and the Swedish Glass Museum are two museums under the same roof. The Swedish Glass Museum is located in the older parts of the museum and presents glass from all over the world and through all times. Let yourself be enchanted by the oldest Swedish glass, dating back to the 1580s. Admire the royal cups and simple bottles from the 17th and 18th centuries. Enjoy the bourgeois crystal and the farmers’ pressed glass of the 19th century. Marvel at world famous design from the 20th century and contemporary Swedish glass.

The Smålands Museum is a well-made museum about the history of the town of Växjö and the surrounding Småland region. In an uncluttered exhibition you learn a lot about everyday life in bygone times and the development of the city of Växjö. The Glass Museum is also located in the same building complex and the Emigrant Museum is located next door. The admission ticket is valid for all three museums. However, we only visited the Smålands Museum and then took a short tour of the Glass Museum.

This museum contains lots of historical items from the area over different periods. It's a good activity probably for children. Not all the information is in English, but there is enough in English to get the main idea. Interesting displays. Same ticket as the Emigrants House and glass museum, so worth a quick look in.

One of the very best regional museums I have ever visited. Documenting the history of Småland from prehistoric times and onward. All of the information for the various displays is summarised in English and German. The only downside is that the lighting levels are kept low so it can be a bit difficult to see all the detail at times.

This is an excellent museum to explain the massive emigration from Sweden and especially Smaland to North American in the 19th century. Charts and maps highlight the displays.

This place was worth checking out. There were a number of different interesting displays. I thought the currency collection was superb and a must see for any coin collector.

Tells a lot about the history of the region, it is explained in a way where you can clearly see the cultural evolution of the region and what makes them a different from the rest of Sweden.

The glass museum and emigration institute both included in the same ticket are both worth a visit, but Småland's museum was just dull and we basically just passed through it. And what does the Austrian Ötzi have to do with Småland in Sweden?

How far is the museum from Kalvsvik? Are the museum exhibits translated into English? Best way to get around to this museum, House of Emigrants, Kalvsik, Skatelov, Vaxjo if you do not have a car?
