Storm Hans advanced over southern Sweden. We took the opportunity to make a short excursion to Helsingborg and visit the exhibition Around the World on 80 souvenirs. Dunkers exhibits souvenirs and travel memorabilia from all over the world, both from private collections and own collections from Helsingborg's museum. The exhibition runs until October 1, 2023.
One of mankind's very oldest pursuits must have been traveling the planet. From the hunt for food to migrations, rampages, pilgrimages, trade trips, The Grand Tour to today's mass movements of millions of tourists to Paul Salopek's hiking from the Horn of Africa, travel in various forms has constantly been going on across the planet. "Already the ancient Greeks" scribbled on ancient buildings and Vikings/Värings carved runes in Constantinople and in Jerusalem in their time. And everyone took home souvenirs. Popular items were tinkling silver coins, pieces of the "true cross" or a piece of the Pyramid of Cheops.
Just a piece of granite from this pyramid is included in the exhibition, in addition to many other things; a piece of coal from the Titanic, the Gävle goat as a candlestick (!) or the cigarette-producing donkey from the Canary Islands.
A fun and interesting exhibition in other words and many of the objects are described in the owners' own words and stories.

I cannot describe my happiness for seeing this place! The staff is very lovely and happy to help you with all necessary information. The ground floor is free for seeing and there you can find some of the artistic pieces, as well as a museum of Helsingborg with many old objects exhibited. They have description both in English and Swedish. On the next floors there are more exhibitions that change from time to time. We had an opportunity to see an artistic exhibition of the artist Yoshio Nakajima. Not only that, but artist was at the moment there having a performance and took a photo with him, so cool! Another exhibition Aquanauts was also super interesting, with many modern details and different art aspects, accompanied with sound, different light techniques and even smell. They included all senses, touch, sight, smell, hearing... It was spectacular and I would recommend it to anyone! If you are planning to see the whole building, you for sure need more than 1 hour to see all.

Very friendly staff. Beautiful environment around the exhibition halls. Nice premises as they have 5 different exhibitions at the same time. Good toilets free of charge. And then a Cafe and restaurant in the same building with good pastries and very good food.

Upon arrival at Helsingborg Central Station, we went to the tourist office in Dunkers Kulturhus, which was very easy to find, we simply had to walk straight out along Kungsgata from the railway station. It’s a huge white glass and concrete building with totally different facades towards the square (Sundstorget) and towards the water. It was designed by Danish architect Kim Utzon, whose father designed the Sydney Opera House, but it is not so bold in style and we didn’t particularly like it.
Apart from the tourist office, the Kulturhus also houses a theatre, a concert hall, a conference room, rooms for all kinds of educational activities, a town museum and temporary exhibitions, a restaurant and a shop, so it’s a good place to start the exploration of the city. The staff at the tourist office was very friendly and advised us on buying a two days combo ticket for the major sights in Helsingborg: Solfiero Castle, the open air museum Fredriksdal, Kärnan and the exhibitions in Dunkers Kulturhus itself. We visited all of them and found the ticket to be very good value for money. We also found useful leaflets detailing walks in the neighbourhood.

we went there for an exhibiton. Very nice and bright building. Afterwards we went downstairs in the bar, with view on the harbour and had a small good lunch. An absolute must go in Helsingborg.

We met a group one morning and had brunch on their patio. Great food and a good spot to sit by the water and people watch. Unfortunately we never made it inside.

After transfer to shore by tender from our cruise ship, we promptly found a foreign currency exchange office where we purchased krona, the local Swedish currency, in order to facilitate our activities in Helsingborg. Then we began to explore this delightful city.
The Dunkers Kulturhus is a fine cultural center for southern Sweden, centrally located in the city in a beautifully designed modern building; a magnificent synthesis of art, architectural thought, and modern design. It is within easy walking distance of the port and is well worth a visit.
It represents an eclectic mixture of cultural pursuits and as one might expect, many exhibitions are on display. Foremost among them is modern art, but architecture is also prominently represented, as are other disciplines. Innovative spaces are provided within the center to encourage and support community theater arts, dance, and musical concert performances.
There is also a fine restaurant located on the premises. We enjoyed some exceptionally well prepared pastries, along with some fine strong coffee. It is a beautiful spot to relax, and to reflect and discuss what you've seen.

Perfect location in central Helsingborg, good food well prepared a bit stiff but if you fancy a bit more dressed and upscale dining a summer night this is not a bad choice.
