A small place that is very calm. A church and some old buildings alongside a calm river and all set int beautiful nature. A lot of local history can be found here as well as a nice picnic place during summer.

We found this place rather by accident but are SO glad we did! It was a freezing day and everything else was closed around it (attractions, restaurant, park, etc), but it was still very interesting. You can walk around and up to the water wheel, the pump, the bridge and then right under the major kiln/fire. I'm not sure it's worth a 5 hour drive to get there, but as we were merely a 45 min drive it worked out very well and was a great little afternoon adventure. The fact we were the only ones there made it borderline creepy, but that just added to the fun :). Note- there's a free audio-guide you can apparently download of the attraction, so do this in advance. I would have enjoyed knowing more information (but didn't have 4G in that spot, and no wifi in closed shops near it).

A picture perfect Swedish countryside iron manufacturing facility dating back to the late 1600s. You are walking along the remnants of centuries worth of iron casting, an integral part of Swedish history. There is a small shop where you can buy souvenirs and local delicacies.

I have lived in this area for many years but have never really visited the place. My wife and I took the kids on two separate trips, and it was needed. The first time we walked around the place, got ice cream at the shop and really enjoyed the old history. The 2nd time around, we went there for lunch (highly recommended) and then took the local train around the area which was very fun and neat!

If you are interested in the ruins and well kept buildings from a former iron-smelting-place (in Swedish hytta) you will find this place ideal. It lies like a forgotten idyll at a stream close to the coast. There is a little church and a good restaurant. You can even rent small houses for overnight. The ironworks were founded in the 17th century and closed dowh in 1918.
