I liked walking these cosy streets with small vintage houses along. It made me feel like in a movie of the 70s. Area of the old town is not big so don't plan much time for it.

Spared about 1.5 hours for the walk along the canal and it was worth it. Don't miss the view from Gammelbron (The Old Bridge) and the church nearby. A short visit to the old village behind Länsmuseet (closed until 2017) is also a highlight.

Very nice old town, even if it is too small. Take a stroll along the narrow streets and lovely wooden houses, then walk along the river.

Central Gavle is nice with lots of interesting buildings. And of course in winter there is the Gavlebocken (Gävlebocken) which is the very large straw goat that the town puts up at advent. Worth a day trip.

The tourist office in the old town very helpful and great information of the town and the area. The park is a lovely place to walk but look out for the bicycles!

Very nice neighborhood, in perfect condition, to see how living was in the past. A must to see for historical interested people. You can dream of living there.

I lived near Gavle for several years, on and off, and visited during all seasons. At one time, Gavle was an industrious manufacturing center for garments, hats, boots, tools, many of which can still be found in the second hand shops there. It has a...More

Gamla Gefle (old town of Gavle) is the only memory left of the time before the big fire that destroyed almost all the city in the late 19th century. The narrow streets and wooden houses helped to spread the fire and learned the constructions a...More
