Don’t drive on this dirt bad road. It will destroy your car. We went there to discover that it’s closed.

Gavle has a lot to offer. The tourist bureau puts out a walking tour that’s recommended. Outside of town are two Elk parks. Car drivers have written good things, but if you haven’t got wheels, here’s what to do to get to Kybacka Gard. Take bus 48 from Stop K on Norra Strandgatan and get out at Tuvea. It’s about a 2.5 km walk. Google the map. This bus doesn’t run on Sunday so do what I did. Take bus 91 from Stop N on Norra Radmansgatan near cross road Ruddammsgatan. The bus leaves at 9:10 am and costs 52 Kr. Ask the driver to stop at Overharde Rorbergsvagen. Check the timetable for returning on the other side of the road. It’s a 7 km walk through the countryside, farms and pine trees that’s quiet and goes fast. Follow Rorbergsvagen until it branches off at Persbackvagan. If in doubt look for the signs “Till Algparken” [to elk park]. It’s open with tours at 11 am and 1 pm. There’s a café on site. If you want to see a moose, go.

It is only a short drive out of Gavle, so we had a coffee on the terrace before doing the 1pm tour. After a short talk in Swedish, then translated into English, we walked over to the field to meet one moose cow, then into the wood to see some of the others including Dennis, a 15 year old bull. It was a really interesting and informative tour, lasting about an hour. Nice shop, too.

Family run and family orientated. Beautiful scenery, fresh air and moose up close. Very enjoyable day walking through park. Feeding moose was fun. Such large beautiful animals. Park honors and treats moose with respect and good care. Staff is friendly and welcoming. .
