Just marvelous! We had a ”cook & talk” package and made traditional sami dishes over the open fire. At the same time we could learn a lot about sami culture in past and present. Our best recomendations!

My daughter and I had an wonderful time on the Ratekjokk trail. The scenery in and around the mountains was beautiful, the Icelandic horses were well trained and willing, the food was great and the organization was flawless. Kerstin and Sara were the nicest guides, knowledgeable in all matters and always cheerful. I highly recommend this longer tour, as it allows to go further into the wild, know your horse better, get a better sense of life in this region and get to discover a bit of the Sami culture that Kerstin was always keen to share with us.…

My teenage step daughter and I went for a day ride with the most lovely guide who’s name, I am ashamed to say, I totally can’t remember ever being told. But she was super sweet and took us around some lakes and through the forest for about 4hrs with our cute Icelandic horses. On the day ride they bring a very classic Swedish fika (light sandwiches, coffee and cookies) so if you really want to know what that’s like for people who live here it’s a great chance to experience “lagom” snacking. But above all, my step daughter’s and my favourite part of the whole experience was that the guide has YOU go get the horses from the field and bring them to the stable, brush them, saddle them, and basically look after your ride for the day. I loved that. I’ve done riding at some of the resorts in the western States and they just put you on the totally ready horse at the start and then take the hose away at the end. It’s so commercial and transactional, no wonder those horses often kick and bite and don’t care what their rider is asking them to do. Here you bond with the horse, and take care of it, because it will take care of you all day. And it shows in the demeanour of the horses. As a side note I highly recommend bringing carrots or apples to your session…the Icelandic horses are already a bit round for their short stature but I’m not above bribery. …

We were hoping for a more scenic experience rather than the stony track we ended up on. Eventually we came to a nice lake for a break and where we were handed a few dry slices of bread and a tube of cheese. If we’d known we would have brought our own sandwiches because 4 hours of grooming the horses and riding between 11-15 makes you slightly hungry. After the break we went back on the same stony track.…

I had the best time at Ofelas for a horseback winter week. The team is fantastic! They share their passion of horses and nature, always make sure we are happy and comfortable and take care of absolutely everything. It is a very friendly atmosphere and you will never get bored. Thank you very much to Jenny, Kerstin, Gry and Matti for this fantastic week. The horse riding is of course the must with many rides in nature, lessons of tolt and even some groundwork. Their horses are well trained and taken good care of. We also had a wonderful time with the reindeer herders and our dog sledging guide. During the week we shared a little cottage with two other participants. We had separate bedrooms and separate bathrooms but shared a cozy living room/kitchen. Ofelas also arranged the activities so we wouldn't miss anything when going to Kiruna for our PCR test. They also organised this extra drive to Kiruna. This was much appreciated. I highly recommend this multi activity week at Ofelas!…
