Fårö, Gotland

Amazing hidden jewel in Sweden. Lots of wonderful places to visit, places to see, beaches to relax on and cafes to sample the wonderful food. I can't recommend this place enough :)

Took an afternoon drive over to the island via the ferry. Simple process of driving on - 10 mins and drive off the other side. Ferries run on the half hour - we were lucky to drive straight on and coming back only waited 10 mins. Saw the rock formations, went to go to Ingmar Bergman museum but it closed... More

Fårö is situated north of Gotland, the largest Island in the Baltic Sea. You get to Fårö by crossing a strait with a car ferry. Fårö is famous for its special nature and of course fine beaches. Nowadays there are a lot of restaurants and tourists attractions -- but visit Fårö with an open mind and see the cultural landscape,... More

...breath taking. We got there late afternoon...after6 pm. We got both blue sky then sunset. Amazing place. Air is so so fresh. Don't get misled thinking it's just beach with rocks. There's plenty green by it too. I loved it. We 'll definitely be back there to spend a whole day next summer as now it's impossible to get accommodation... More

Fårö is a small island north of the bigger island Gotland. It takes only a few moments to sail to the island, from Gotland and the ferry is free of charge. It takes 3 hours to sail from the mainland to Gotland, and you can sail from 2 cities Oskarshamn or Nynäs. You will have to book the ferry in... More

Faro island is a 15 minute free ferry from Gotland Island off the east coast of Sweden. It is so beautiful and serene you will be happy you made the effort. The villages are all unique and boast beautiful, ancient churches. The Faro church where Ingmar Bergman is buried has a stunning view of the sea. Highly recommend.

I absolutely love Fårö. My husband's parents live on Gotland, and Fårö is a short drive north, then a ferry ride across a sound (car goes on ferry, 10 minutes, free). We saw the Bergman museum, need no more than an hour there. Then drove through countryside, had a lovely lunch at Ebbe's, then went to look at the shoreline... More

Stopped on the way back to the ferry for a bite at a little restaurant that's only open fir a fees hours around dinner. Great food good... More

Fårø - the small island close to Gotland is where Ingmar Bergman made his most famuos films. A very nice and informativemuseum give you a good view into the fanous swedes life and work. And much so also Liv Ullmans. If you go there, bring your bicykle and let your car stay at Gotland. A very beautiful and easy trip... More

Fårö is a small island just off north of the island of Gotland. You can access the Island by the free ferry at Farosund. The Ferry leaves about every half hour, if you are leaving or arriving on the island very late you can make a reservation. This is a rural island but well worth the visit if you are... More
