Amazing scenery lovely little tracks to walk along (sensible shoes is a must) Roman bridge and remains of the old bakers house, sometimes streams and rivers in winter months.

You can still see where the mill worked and the water sluices that used to drive the stones. An old bread oven is quietly decaying along the track and the ruins of the millers cottage sit above teh bridge beneath the castle

Paderne Castle is a hill fort built by the Moors in the second half of the 12th Century, its location on a rocky peninsular on a loop of the Quarteira River was of strategic importance as it controlled the ancient Roman road "Via Lusitanorum". This three arched bridge, which tradition has it is of Roman origin, stands just below the castle and was one of the few crossings of that river. Above the central arch there is an inscription that refers to 1711, possibly the year of restoration/repair.

A few years ago you couldn’t see the bridge from the castle. Now with some brush cut down it is clearly visible. Park under the freeway and follow the path along the river. This is the first year that the river has been totally dry. It takes about 25 min to reach the bridge but the walk is easy and beautiful with many information signs in Portuguese and English describing plants and animals. At the bridge check out the millers house, millstones and bake oven. Well worth the time to visit. You can walk down from the castle with new paths that have been created but we usually drive up and then park below to see the bridge.

This is the kind of tourist attraction I live, historic, beautiful and off the beaten path. You can see the bridge from the castle. To get there, once you pass under the bridge from the toll highway keep going to your right, the castle road is to your left. It is marked with a small sign saying biodiversity area. The rod is narrow but opens up to a picnic spot about 100 meters past the castle turn off, where you can park and turn the car around. ( never sure on some of these narrow country roads if you have to back up all the way!) byway from the picnic site the trail is well marked with signs indicating the flora and fauna. Across the river is beautiful rustic house and water mill. The walk is quite easy and flat, taking about 15 minutes. Near the bridge the path is marked up to Paderne Castle. This is a bit steep but would be a Shorter walk than the road up to the castle. The bridge is beautiful in its setting but one wonders why it was built here- did the river flow much deeper a thousand years ago? Why built so close to the hillside? Anyway- makes a beautiful country walk! Enjoy. A must do if you like nature and history and are in the Albufeira area.

You start off next to a beautiful, old mill and follow a nature walk, which is punctuated by information boards telling you about the local flora and fauna. The path is quite narrow in places and you could be forgiven for thinking you are never going to reach the bridge,, but stick at it and you will be rewarded. One word of warning - look out for the mountain bikers who seem to have arranged trips along this path - you have to keep your wits about you!

If you like tours and to exlore the nice region, this old medieval bridge in stone, perhaps replacing a wooden construction, it connected to the other side and it was a small river
with no water for the moment; you will feel you in an other time or period of life; very nice to take pictures, nice view, a romantic bridge,

Went to the castle, castle shut. Went for a walk, found the bridge. Nothing spectacular, not worth going out of your for. However it was a nice walk in the sun so if that floats your boat....

Lovely Bridge, good information in several languages.
It could do with a couple of signposts from where the address in Trip Advisor tells you to go.
Do NOT follow Google Maps instructions to drive when you get to the track. It is wide enough for a car, and if you are in a decent 4x4 like a land rover defender, you might make it there and back. Maps app told us to go down there, we started and very quickly reversed back. As we earned down the path, it was clear this was the right decision. There is nothing at the road of the track to say the bridge is down there, nor anything to warn you against driving down there.
Maybe there is somewhere else to park, but we parked at the fork in the road on the map image attached. Do not leave the tarmac.
Thr Miller's house was interesting too as was all the j for on thr flora in the area.
It's a steep 1-mile walk down and a steeper walk back up. Make sure you're in sensible footwear and take water and go earlier in the day before it gets super hot.
It's worth the effort, though, some amazing views, but does need these warnings
