Neighborhood: Indre By (Inner City)
This is the heart of old town Copenhagen, with its blend of charming old buildings and bold new architecture, broad avenues and tiny streets as well as picturesque canals and a modern harbor. The inner city is home to the Royal Danish Theatre, which consists of three buildings, two of which are new and situated on the harbor front. The streets, squares and venues of the inner city and its surrounding neighborhoods, are alive all year round with everything from jazz festivals to outdoor ice skating rinks and parachuting at the lakes right in the center of the city. This compact area boasts beautiful old castles, tranquil parks, and bustling squares where you can always find a bench to stretch out your legs whenever you need a break.

Construction completed in 1706 to house the overflow of worshipers of the burgeoning garrison population of the castle surrounding community.
Originally designed by an engineer on a basic plan of a Latin cross, everything fitting a 20 foot modular scale, everything seems symetrical and in order. But the color scheme is unique, in grey, white and red, with silver white bleached floor.
A gem!

Another pretty church in Copenhagen. Not super ornate, like most of the others, but with great acoustics and pretty interior.

This church was completed in 1706 as the army's church in Copenhagen during the reign of King Frederik IV for the nearby fortress.
The church is looking quite small from the outside but the Dutch Baroque interior is one of the city's most monumental church interiors.

The Garnisonskirken (or Garrison Church) was built in 1706, during the reign of King Frederik IV, as a church for the military garrison in Copenhagen. It was subsequently also used by the citizens of Frederik's Town and from 1804 became a civilian church.
Externally the church has huge iron windows built into a brick facade with a large tower that contains a clock on clocks of its faces. The beautiful, but relatively simple, interior is mostly all white with gold trim, chandeliers and a vaulted ceiling. However, what sets this church apart from others is the two storey Dutch Baroque style galleries either side of the nave that make it look more like a theatre than a church.
The impressive black altarpiece is made of Norwegian marble and dates from the first half of the 18th century whilst the pulpit and baptisimal font are both of neo-classical design and date from the second half of the 18th century. There is also a magnificent looking organ that dates from 1724.
Well worth a look.

There's nothing too impressive about this church.
However, it is easy on the eye and ok for a 5-minute visit.
There's a lovely avenue of trees next to the church.
