Vesterbro

Top ways to experience Vesterbro and nearby attractions

The area

Neighborhood: Inner Vesterbro
This neighbourhood is home to Tivoli Gardens, a world famous amusement park and beautiful garden always worth a visit. Just west of Tivoli, you’ll find Copenhagen Central Station, from where you can reach just about every part of Denmark within 5 or 6 hours, or you can reach Copenhagen Airport in less than 15 minutes. Next to the Central Station, you’re in the middle of “old” Vesterbro, where several cultures and hundreds of languages are spoken in an area not more than one square mile. This neighbourhood is considered one of the most trendy places to live in and to visit in Copenhagen. For a real treat, visit Kødbyen ("meat town"), home to several restaurants, cafés and nightclubs, all within a short walk of each other.

This part of Copenhagen is located behind the building of the train station. You can get to know everyday life here of Copenhagen. I visited the Funky Junky Shop on Istedgade. This shop offers a selection of Danish Design or kitsch pieces from the 1950's, 60's and 70's (from clothes to vinyl records). The Istedgade street is the parallel street to the Halmtorvet street to the north. You can meet some prostitues on Istedgade as well.

Once known for being a rather seedy area, it now boasts an eclectic mix of independent shops, cafes, bars and some of the best street art in the city. The mural found located on Oehlenschlægersgade, is one of the city’s most famous pieces by Chinese artist, DALeast. The large-scale eagle which takes over the whole side of the building is immediately recognisable because of the artist’s signature chaotic etched line work. Unfortunately, the additional tag line was added at a later date.

Full of young people who are wondering, drinking and having fun! Industrial, underground but well decorated and must-see place in Copenhagen.

Vesterbro is a cool up and coming neighbourhood of Copenhagen with lots of nice bars, coffee shops etc in addition to the meat packing district with its wide range of bars , clubs and restaurants.
Be aware until 10yrs ago this was a rough neighbourhood and the red light district and you need to bear this in mind when looking for where to stay
Istergaard is vesterbros main thoroughfare and at the station end it is still pretty sleezy - strip clubs, sex shops and girls openly working the streets with their minders lurking in doorways.
However, a little further along the street (I would say from NBH pizzeria onwards) the street is transformed and is full of hipsters and young families enjoying the urban lifestyle
We loved our stay here

We cycled here hoping for a boho chic vibe with cosy cafes etc. Maybe we were in the wrong place but we cycled all over the place and couldn't see anything worth stopping for. The meat packing area looks like a meat packing area. Try Christianhavn instead, much nicer!

We picked a hotel based in the neighbourhood of Vesterbro for the duration of our stay in Copenhagen and couldn't have been happier. The area itself is very busy with it being such a short walk to the main shopping streets and round the corner to Tivoli Gardens.

The architecture is very mixed, old and new there is plenty to take in. We were walking around late at night well after dark and felt very safe and happy in the area.

It's a nice neighborhood near Tivoli and Central Station. Lots of good houses and architecture and a good place for walking.

A neighborhood adjacent to the center of the Copenhagen. At one of its border you can find the famous Tivoli Gardens. One of the main streets is Istedgade, that starts from the main train station, Copenhagen Central. It’s a street full of hotels, restaurants and shops but also an area where low quality prostitutes are wandering. Another point of interest of the district is the Fisketorvet mall. All in all, not an outstanding district, its main quality being the position in the immediate vicinity of the center.

Vesterbro is a district in Copenhagen, located on the west side of the Central Station.

One part of the area is called the Meatpacking District which used to be the home to Copenhagen’s meat industry.

In recent years, the area has changed a lot and is now a trendy nightlife spot with many restaurants and bars.

The hotel in which we stayed in Copenhagen is located just a short walk from this appealing neighbourhood. As a result, we were able to stroll through the area on a number of occasions.
The architecture of the area is a mixture of old and new but it appeared to us that new constructions are slowly taking over from the older buildings.
The appeal of this neighbourhood to us is the eclectic mix of coffee shops, bars and casual eateries. Throw in some quirk, small shops and you have a neighbourhood which is both interesting and fun to visit.
We certainly enjoyed our visits there!
