Dreadful maskarade

The opera house is a very impressive building, perhaps dwarfing the royal palace over the water. The Olafur Eliasson art is fantastic. We saw the "national opera" Maskarade. One of the worst performances we have seen recently. There was clearly no respect for Holberg or the adapted text. The director got so bored with the play that he substituted an... More

We also recently visited the Operaen, as it's known there, to see Swan Lake. We rode the 9A bus to get there and then took the Harbour "Bus" back to Nyhavn after the show. Unfortunately there were no tours in English while we were in CPH, or I would have gone on one. But for a setting in which to... More

This is a great and very cool building! We saw a ballet, swan lake which was beautiful. The air quality was s bit so-so where we sat but the place is definitely worth a visit!

Went to see Swan Lake there. Great transport links. Bus takes you from Christianhvn metro number 9a. Then they are waiting to take you back after the performance.

This is an impressively designed building. The exterior seems to want to melt into the environment on a cold gray January day. No bright colors. Only gloom. Once inside, it's warming and cheerful and the perfect venue for music.

It doesn't matter if you like or not that kind of music, you must definitely visit it! Inside and outside it's a very beautiful building! It worth going there by foot so you can see Christiania area and the area around it.

The new opera house was commissioned in 2005 by a rich business family owning the Maersk shipping and containers group. It is large, very modern and a little grey and dull, especially when the weather is bad or in the Winter times.

What a gem! Worth approaching on water bus from Nyhavn for best effect. Stunning architecture both outside and in. Auditorium a viewing delight with fantastic triple revolving stage. Magic Flute performance was in German with Danish surtitles but mattered not a jot. And at the end of evening join the crowds returning on 9a bus or better still the water... More

It does not quite compare to the Sydney Opera house but it is nonetheless striking in style . I did not see any performance there so cannot comment on the workings of the theatre or the acoustics but the foyer is grand the building awesome and its another beautiful addition to an already culturally rich city .

Staying in Christianshavn

Neighborhood Profile
Just across one of the many bridges from Indre By, you’ll find Christianshavn. An eclectic area with old brick lanes, houses dating back to the 16th century, and canals which are home to many boats and ships, some of which has been turned into restaurants or even serve as fully furnished homes. The best known attraction in Chistianshavn is Christiania, a “free town” of residents who squat on a former military area. However just a stone’s throw away from Christiania, you’ll find some of the most fashionable waterfront apartment buildings in Copenhagen as well as the splendid Royal Opera House.
