Address
Neighborhood: Indre By (Inner City)
This is the heart of old town Copenhagen, with its blend of charming old buildings and bold new architecture, broad avenues and tiny streets as well as picturesque canals and a modern harbor. The inner city is home to the Royal Danish Theatre, which consists of three buildings, two of which are new and situated on the harbor front. The streets, squares and venues of the inner city and its surrounding neighborhoods, are alive all year round with everything from jazz festivals to outdoor ice skating rinks and parachuting at the lakes right in the center of the city. This compact area boasts beautiful old castles, tranquil parks, and bustling squares where you can always find a bench to stretch out your legs whenever you need a break.

Beautiful fountain
Jul 2019
The Caritas Well or Fountain was erected in 1608 by King Christian IV and is the oldest fountain in Copenhagen.

The fountain is located on the Gammeltorv square, which is part of the Strøget pedestrian street. There are some pleasant cafes with terraces by the square.

Ancient fountain along the Strøget
May 2019 • Couples
Copenhagen is full of wonderful statues and fountains. Caritasbrønden (Caritas Well) is located on Gammeltorv and is the oldest fountain in Copenhagen, built in 1608. You can’t miss it as you stroll along the Strøget. Worth stopping for a few moments to take in its beauty and history.

Great detail and color

As you stroll along the Stroeget, you wind up passing thru the Amagertorv and Gammeltorv squares Both have fountains/statutes. I think this fountain, Caritas in Gammeltorv is by far more detailed, colorful and beautiful.

Oldest fountain in the city!
Jun 2018 • Couples
It sits along the Pedestrian Zone (Stroget) in the neighborhood Gammeltorv. This is one of many fountains/monuments that exist throughout the zone and city. It is a place for sitting and people watching while enjoying a coffee or lunch from the various restaurants which surround the fountain on the Stroget. It is very historic in nature and very old dating back a few hundred years. Although old and ancient, it has managed to exist without being disturbed much, but seemingly being enjoyed by all. Worth a stop while visiting in the Pedestrian Zone .

Lots of old buildings and the stone road. You feel like that your are in one of the movies about Europe. Well persevered city and very clean. Not too many people around but definitely tourist place.

Wandering around the pedestrian area there is no shortage of fountains, squares and places to sit and enjoy. The Caritasbroenden at first wasn't that awe inspiring but I decided to sit down and take in the atmosphere. If you've got the time grab a snack and sit and enjoy. As you examine the structure closely there is some pretty impressive handiwork. Worth a stop. Don't blow by.

Oldest monument
Dec 2017 • Couples
Caritasbrønden = the Charity well is the oldest monument in Copenhagen from 1608, made by Statius Otto and fed ( originally) by water from Emdrup Lake ( some 8-10 km north of Copenhagen) led in in wooden pipelines. On the Queen,s birthday it springs with Golden Apples on the jets of water.

an interesting fountain in the central pedestrian zone. There are big bugs because it is a square, so it's hard to make a good photo. There are selling their famous sausages, you must try it

An elegant fountain!
Jul 2017 • Couples
During our stay in Copenhagen, we walked up and down Stroget, one of the main shopping streets, on a number of occasions. The Caritasbroenden fountain is located in the Gammeltorv Square which is partway along the street.
Consequently, we had the opportunity to view this fountain several times. Apparently, it is the oldest fountain in Copenhagen. In our opinion, even if it is not the oldest fountain in the city, it is certainly the most elegant.
Its contrasting colouring of black and gold make it particularly eye-catching and it was certainly attracting its fair share of attention from tourists each time that we passed by.
There were large numbers of people having their holiday photos taken in the vicinity of the fountain. It also appeared to be a popular meeting spot for the locals!
Worthwhile having a good look whilst you are passing by!
