About
Kunstforeningen GL STRAND is a modern art centre in the heart of Copenhagen, housed in one of the city´s beautiful late-baroque townhouses. GL STRAND hosts 6-8 annual exhibitions in addition to a varied program of events related to the changing exhibitions. The exhibitions are aimed at a wide audience and reflect our time, either by offering a contemporary perspective on themes from art history or by presenting the latest international and Danish contemporary art. The interdisciplinary art exhibitions are another characteristic of GL STRAND where visual art enters into dialogue with other disciplines such as fashion, film and design. During the summer of 2018 you can experience the exhibition VOUGE Like a Painting. The exhibition explores the relationship between fashion photography and fine arts through a selection of images from the archives of Vogue magazine. VOGUE Like a Painting is a pleasure trip through various aesthetic expressions, presented in spellbinding large-scale phot

Neighborhood: Indre By (Inner City)
This is the heart of old town Copenhagen, with its blend of charming old buildings and bold new architecture, broad avenues and tiny streets as well as picturesque canals and a modern harbor. The inner city is home to the Royal Danish Theatre, which consists of three buildings, two of which are new and situated on the harbor front. The streets, squares and venues of the inner city and its surrounding neighborhoods, are alive all year round with everything from jazz festivals to outdoor ice skating rinks and parachuting at the lakes right in the center of the city. This compact area boasts beautiful old castles, tranquil parks, and bustling squares where you can always find a bench to stretch out your legs whenever you need a break.

This gallery has several floors, so there are many stairs to climb, but a lift is also available. The exhibition we saw was about Leonard Cohen, which attracted a lot of people. Music and videos demonstrated his talent, but the main theatre at the upper floor was very dark, so it was difficult to see where to sit. In some of the other rooms different shows were shown, although not that interesting. Otherwise, there were many posters on the walls with a lot of texts to read, but why stand at a gallery to read about an artist, when you just as well can sit at home and read his story?

I read about the exhibition home in Norway and was lucky enough to get a hold of it in Copenhagen. Breathtaking show for a Kubrick fan!

If you like photography, celebrities, fashion, royals, or simply appreciate art, then I would highly recommend a visit here to see the Testino exhibition. Great work. The gallery is a good space and the staff are approachable and friendly.

I see a lot of contemporary art so I was disappointed to go all the way to Copenhagen to see an exhibit of New York artists who's work I'd already seen. But it was a good show and most people wouldn't have that experience. The shows change, so definitely check this place out if you have any real interest in art. Just check the web site to make sure they're not between shows. It's not a large place and it's free with your Copenhagen card ( and not very expensive without it.)

One of the highlights of any trip I take is to track down local galleries and exhibitions, especially of contemporary art. This gallery had been recommended to us by our hotel. It was such a let down.
One exhibition seemed to consist of 80's porn music soundtrack to accompany a supposedly sensuous video installation.
Another slightly less tedious room had a light installation which seemed to live up to its advertised objective.
The photographs were my favourite exhibit but they didn't really have much completion.
If you're passing, pop in but not worth a special trip.

This is now an art gallery which at the moment exhibits a Leonard Cohen display of his music, writing and poetry. Another half of the exhibition is at the Nikolaj Kundsthall which is an old church located at nearby Nikolaj Plads 10.

I went to Kunstforeningen Gl Strand to see the display of Rose Eken. I was hard to find and was only one display. A small, but nice display of what is inside a womans handbag. Apart from that there was an exhibition of paintings from Franciska Clausen, Rita Kernn-Larsen og Elsa Thoresen. Really nice ...

My first time at this small museum, but definitely not my last. The Kubrick exhibition filled up all three exhibition floors with scripts, letters, props, etc. Not much new information for Kubrick fans, but still a good experience.

I was very satisfied with my visit to GL Strand. I saw the Tove Jansson exhibition which was quite extensive and stretched over three floors with lots of artwork and a cinema room. They have a student discount. Staff is kind. There is a small shop and cafe.
