The area
Address
Neighborhood: Indre By (Inner City)
This is the heart of old town Copenhagen, with its blend of charming old buildings and bold new architecture, broad avenues and tiny streets as well as picturesque canals and a modern harbor. The inner city is home to the Royal Danish Theatre, which consists of three buildings, two of which are new and situated on the harbor front. The streets, squares and venues of the inner city and its surrounding neighborhoods, are alive all year round with everything from jazz festivals to outdoor ice skating rinks and parachuting at the lakes right in the center of the city. This compact area boasts beautiful old castles, tranquil parks, and bustling squares where you can always find a bench to stretch out your legs whenever you need a break.

You need to buy tickets from the Tourist Information desk which is located just inside the doors at City Hall to go up to the Tower. The tours are at selected times throughout the day when you are escorted up to the tower. There are steps to climb but nothing too strenuous. We found that City Hall offered the best views of the city with no restrictive railings or wire obstructing your photos. We were allowed to make our own way down and have a look around as we left. The ceiling and walls up the main staircase was beautiful. It was a reasonable price too, about £4.

Copenhagen city hall square is a very nice place. Here starts one of Europe's biggest walking streets. It is also house to the magnificent Copenhagen city hall.

It would be all nice and all, except...
The city hall square is full of construction work since years and there isn't seem to be an end to that in site.

This huge expanse is a good place to view the Town Hall and other buildings and towers in the vicinity. I found it quite an ordeal to cross the roads surrounding the square due to all the traffic and few safe crossing points.

The square in front of the town hall. Very large and surrounded by a mix of old and new buildings, with interesting architecture, many of them having on the ground floor restaurants and shops. Near the town hall is a beautiful fountain, Dragon Fountain. Through Stroget, a pedestrian street, full of expensive shops, is connected by another important market in Copenhagen, Kongens Nytorv. It is the place where the Danes gathers for demonstrations or to watch the queen’s speeches (kept from the central balcony of the town hall).

It was wonderful to stand in the middle of the square to admire the beautiful Town Hall and join the folks rushing between the Central Train Station and Strøget.

There are many sights on this centrally located square: the City Hall, the Dragon Fountain, the Lur Blowers statue, and the statue of Hans Christian Andersen.

The famous pedestrian street Strøget starts from here and it goes to Kongens Nytorv, the other large square of the city center.

There are still construction works going on for the metro station.

It's a nice place. But it's isn't quite a must-do when you visit Copenhagen. If you have some extra time, go for it - if not, skip it!"

The square in which the Radhuspladsen was under significant construction when I visited, meaning that I couldn't see it's full beauty, however, the building itself is impressive and imposing. I'm not sure I'd make a journey specifically to see it though.
