I wandered around Holmen by chance, since my husband had a meeting nearby. It wound up being my favorite area of the city! It was formerly a naval base and it's full of nice old industrial buildings. It's also incredibly peaceful & quiet! I love exploring a city by its architecture, and this is a don't-miss spot on that front!

This is an area under heavy development and has changed a lot since its functions for the Danish naval fleet. Lots of historical monuments still. The area is good for walking or running, or for visiting some of the historical sights.

A group of small islands that was once the site of the Royal Naval Base, after it was relocated from Bremerholm at the end of the 17th century. Now it is open to the public and offers some really great views on the city.

Being a keen admirer of new architecture (and Copenhagen has some fine examples) I wanted to see the brand new opera house. This is superbly located on Holmen, overlooking the waterfront and on an alignment with the Amelienborg Palace Square and Marble Church. This is a great new building by the firm Henning Larsen and to attend a performance here must be something special. You see the building in splendid isolation from the other side of the harbour (the park by Amelienborg). The area, Christianshavn, is becoming quite fashionable with old warehouses converted into apartments. Lots of pretty streets alongside the canal. Bus 66 from Central Station takes you right to the Opera or one can take the canal ferry from Nyhavn.

When looking on a map, this area of Copenhagen housing the Royal Academy's schools of theater, film, music and architecture in old barracks seems almost inaccessible. However, it is easily accessible using the harbor bus ferries which depart from the Royal Library, Nyhavn and Knippelsbro, or by taking Bus 2A to its terminus.

Saw this area from a far on the canal tour but it seemed like a cool area with a lot of interesting historical significance to the city.

Just in the middle of cph you will find what was untill a few years a go the main naval station. It is still a navy area but open to the public. Go and see the 400 yers old mast crane or the old ships. Or just sniff in the atmosphere. Great views to the city

Jump aboard Denmark's last submarine or frigate which was famous for firing a missile at a Danish holiday area (but no injuries)

If you need a break away from the touristy crowds, Holmen could be the place. Only one stop with the water bus from Nyhavn, Holmen is more than the location of the Opera. Former home of the Danish navy (few things remain) and in the vicinity of Christiania Holmen is the right place to go if you need to chill out on a sunny day and you want some space and fresh air.

It's nice to walk around the waterfront. All that's missing is more restaurants and cafees.
