The Gefion fountain is not a million miles away from the Little Mermaid so both can be enjoyed in a relatively short space of time. The fountain, which is also a wishing well, is impressively large and detailed and features Norse goddess Gefjun driving her four sons whom apparently she has transformed into oxen! (As you do.) The land she... More

We enjoy large fountains with statues, and this one is no exception. The statue is lovely, and we really liked the layered effect. We visited on a Friday in mid-June, and it was not crowded - only a handful of visitors, which is nice.

The biggest fountain in Copenhagen, and certainly one of the most beautiful ones as well. The artistic quality of the bronze sculpture of Gefion and the bulls pulling the ploug on top of the fountain is impressive, and there is plenty of space to walk around it and enjoy it from all angles.

This is a beautiful statue right outside of a really cool little church. The statue is very pretty and has a lot of neat features if you look closely.

The Gefionspringvandet (Gefion Fountain) is a large fountain on the harbour front which features a large-scale group of oxen being driven by the Norse goddess Gefjun. The fountain was donated to the city of Copenhagen by the Carlsberg Foundation early in the 20th century. It is very impressive and I enjoyed looking at it, after learning its history more so... It's a must visit when in Copenhagen. The area around and the fountain itself is so beautiful with St Albans Church besides and with grass lawns around. Makes it a magical experience. Our visit was blessed with partly cloudy sky to add to the perks. Nevertheless looked so beautiful with the statue of goddess Gefjun with the four oxen, believed... More

Don't miss this statue mounted on a pedestal that portrays the fate of the ships in vividly embossed panels.

I was walking about and came upon this fountain by accident. What struck me was the power of the statue with the oxen and handler.Cleaver use is made of the fountain to add a further dimension to the statue and it sort of comes alive.

This fountain depicts the mythical creation of the island of Zealand, the main island in the Copenhagen archipelago. It was paid for by the Carlsberg beer company and made by a famous Danish sculptor. About a decade ago it was refurbished and now can be seen in its original glory. Its well worth the short walk from the waterfront.
