The area
Neighborhood: Indre By (Inner City)
This is the heart of old town Copenhagen, with its blend of charming old buildings and bold new architecture, broad avenues and tiny streets as well as picturesque canals and a modern harbor. The inner city is home to the Royal Danish Theatre, which consists of three buildings, two of which are new and situated on the harbor front. The streets, squares and venues of the inner city and its surrounding neighborhoods, are alive all year round with everything from jazz festivals to outdoor ice skating rinks and parachuting at the lakes right in the center of the city. This compact area boasts beautiful old castles, tranquil parks, and bustling squares where you can always find a bench to stretch out your legs whenever you need a break.

Just walked passed on our way back to our hotel and what a little gem . Got talking to a lady in there who was really interesting and knowledgeable. The Queen occasionally attends services at the last minute and the toilets where very useful and clean as well.

Seeing the outside of this church shows the exquisite knowledge of King Christian. He was truly aware of his blessings and displayed it on this 400 year old building.

This was a beautiful church worth seeing on our way to Christiansborg. Very beautiful interior. No admission charge. There are cards and postcards available for a very small donation.

It is free to visit. The altar, ceiling and the pulpit are well decorated. The pipe organ is ornate. Paintings are fabulous.

The beautiful choral service on Christmas eve had me in tears . The architecture of the building alone provides your senses with so much to take in and admire.

From the outside, this church does not seem to offer very much, but once inside you will find an absolutely fantastic building. It is the only renaissance church in Copenhagen, built in 1562 as a naval forge and converted to a church in 1619. The Baroque altar piece is very ornate and there is a really grand pulpit. Also very fascinating is the north chapel which contains the tombs of numerous Danish naval heros. Whilst we were there, it was quiet and peaceful because it does not seem to be part of the tourist trail. Admission is free.

This lovely Church is located directly across from the Christiansborg Palace. It was built by King Christian IV, and is devoted to the "sailors" of Denmark. Many famous sailors from the past were ceremoniously buried here. You can see the memorials for naval heroes (Niels Juel and Tordenskjold), and past ships. Hanging from the ceiling is a replica of a fully-rigged ship from the 17th century. After looking at all this, you realize how much the sea has influenced and impacted this area.

The Altar and the Pews are made of Walnut Wood, and you see superb hand-carved detailed carvings everywhere. The ceiling also has many lovely carved artistic pieces.

The Royal family still uses this place for their Sunday services.

One of the Canal Tours starts right from outside this Church. Do visit if you have the time.

churches are interesting to visit, while you most possibly expect to see something similar, but usually they are so different. Holmes Kirke is nice quiet small church with calm interiors. nice place to visit...

I really liked this church. It was very lovely and peaceful. The church is located right on the canal and it took several visits to see the inside due to being very busy with back to back Weddings on the Saturday we tried to visit. After one of the weddings the whole wedding party and guests loaded onto the boat canal tours, which loads below the church.
