This unique, very edgy, semi autonomous hippie enclave is definitely worth a visit but probably in daylight hours only. An eclectic mix of bars, cafes, shops and market stalls. And an equally eclectic mix of free living people who don't seem to like photography!

Lovely part of the city for a stroll, take pictures or stop for a bite. Many shops or cafes to take a much needed break.

Nicer than Nyhavn as not as busy or commercialised. Lovely colourful building with the boats in the water and the reflection of the colours. well worth the five minute walk to see especially using the new bridge and walk way from the city.

You can smell the dope when you walk through the market. That has "Head Shop" products and paraphernalia, T shirts etc. As you walk down Pusher Street you'll be offered Hash, Joints and Weed. People smoke joints openly. DO NOT TAKE PHOTOGRAPHS. It is a bohemian place where they took over the old barracks covered it with graffiti and adopted... More

Touristy but it's the classic Copenhagen we see in the books. Worth a visit and stroll. Try to find a time to avoid the crowds.

No need to do much planning here. I just walked through, stayed close to the canal, but otherwise just wandered. As many pictures accurately this area really is quintessential Copenhagen for many Tourists. Very peaceful and easy.

We loved Christianshavn. The picture above must have been taken from more or less outside our apartment, about 5 minutes from the underground station. The area around the station has a nice selection of shops and restaurants where you can find more or less everything you need. The streets are pleasant to walk in and the centre and Christiania are... More

Some people mistakes Christianshavn with Christiania. Christianshavn is the whole quarter and remains safe and remarkable. You should see its nice calm canals with beautiful color houses.

The canal is lovely (similar to NyHavn but not nearly as nice or safe) but the surrounding area is not a place to visit at night. Some of the photos in the reviews here depict the Freetown area which can be really sketchy as it is the entrance to the drug pusher capital of Copenhagen. It is best to pass... More

Staying in Christianshavn

Neighborhood Profile
Christianshavn
Just across one of the many bridges from Indre By, you’ll find Christianshavn. An eclectic area with old brick lanes, houses dating back to the 16th century, and canals which are home to many boats and ships, some of which has been turned into restaurants or even serve as fully furnished homes. The best known attraction in Chistianshavn is Christiania, a “free town” of residents who squat on a former military area. However just a stone’s throw away from Christiania, you’ll find some of the most fashionable waterfront apartment buildings in Copenhagen as well as the splendid Royal Opera House.
