The area

Address
Neighborhood: Indre By (Inner City)
This is the heart of old town Copenhagen, with its blend of charming old buildings and bold new architecture, broad avenues and tiny streets as well as picturesque canals and a modern harbor. The inner city is home to the Royal Danish Theatre, which consists of three buildings, two of which are new and situated on the harbor front. The streets, squares and venues of the inner city and its surrounding neighborhoods, are alive all year round with everything from jazz festivals to outdoor ice skating rinks and parachuting at the lakes right in the center of the city. This compact area boasts beautiful old castles, tranquil parks, and bustling squares where you can always find a bench to stretch out your legs whenever you need a break.

Extending from the majestic Gefion Fountain at the south side it's a relaxing walk along by the seafront.

Within the green areas are numerous fine monumental sculptures. Chief amongst these are the Iver Huitfeldt Memorial Column and Prinsesse Marie Sculpture.

Continuing onwards we came to one of the most famous sculptures, the Little Mermaid.

Beautiful and extensive park that we could tour with my husband during our stay in the city. We passed the Fountain of Gefion and knew the military fortress. There are different monuments and statues along the way to the seafront, where most cruise ships arriving in Copenhagen dock. We stopped in this public space to rest and eat something. We sat on one of the benches on site, it was a short break enjoying the company of some ducks and pigeons, and then follow the walk.

This park is home to many monuments, statues (the best known and most visited of which is “The Little Mermaid”), buildings, gardens, Langelinie Marina, Langelinie Pier, Langelinie Pavilion, and a kid’s playground. I also like the winged-angel on top of the Huitfeldt column. Being September, the flowers were not ad beautiful to look at as they would have been two months earlier.

We loved walking along the waterfront Langeline promenade & it’s proximity to our ship. Besides The Little Mermaid statue, there were many other sites such as, St Alban’s church, the Gelfion Fountain and the Peace Angel Statue.

A small but pretty park located between the Little Mermaid and the Gefion fountain. Trees, flowers, green grass and a monument in the form of a column with a winged statue on the top, Iver Huitfeldt Column. Also very close are Kastellet and St Alban's church. A very nice area for a relaxing walk!

This lovely promenade contains numerous monuments, including the Gefion Fountain, Den Lille Havfrue (The Little Mermaid), and the Ivar Huitfeldt Column which was built to commemorate the death of Admiral Ivar Huitfeldt and his men in a naval battle off Stevns during the Great Northern War. It is a lovely place to stroll and enjoy the waterfront and also has a playground for the little ones.

While tons of turist flock to se the little mermaid every day a much more imaginative mermaid and sculpture park lies about 10min walk north on the back side of Langelinje park.
On a new square by one of the old warehouses in the Copenhagen Harbour, 'Dahlerups Pakhus', the Danish professor Bjørn Nørgaard has created a sculpture group called 'The Genetically Modified Paradise'.

The square itself is formed in granit stone with a 400-square-meter fountain. In the fountain Bjørn Nørgaard's sculpture gives his provocative and humouristic view of the postmodern society.

In the centre is a 40 ton triumphal arc with a nine meter tall figure of a genetically modified Madonna. Around her are six other figures: Adam, Christ, Maria Magdalena, Eve, The Tripartite Capital and the Pregnant Man.

The last sculpture has moved into the water bassin on its own small island. This is the abovementioned Genetically Modified Little Mermaid and her location is only a few hundred meters from that of her 'older sister' the well-known Copenhagen landmark of The Little Mermaid.
A walk or run along Langelinje is a Copenhagen classic almost always ending with an ice cream cone at the piers end.
For shoppers there's good bargains to be found in the outlet shops along the old pier.
