The area
Address
Neighborhood: Indre By (Inner City)
This is the heart of old town Copenhagen, with its blend of charming old buildings and bold new architecture, broad avenues and tiny streets as well as picturesque canals and a modern harbor. The inner city is home to the Royal Danish Theatre, which consists of three buildings, two of which are new and situated on the harbor front. The streets, squares and venues of the inner city and its surrounding neighborhoods, are alive all year round with everything from jazz festivals to outdoor ice skating rinks and parachuting at the lakes right in the center of the city. This compact area boasts beautiful old castles, tranquil parks, and bustling squares where you can always find a bench to stretch out your legs whenever you need a break.

Ofelia Plads is the perfect place in Copenhagen to relax with friends, or alone, whether it is on a Tuesday after work, or on a fun Saturday night. There are several bars, where you can order drinks, snacks and sit down, as well as several food stands, with different foods varying from fresh pizza, to diverse Indian food. Here you will enjoy the calmness and peace of the fresh Nordic wind, as well as the hug of warmth during the summer. Some activites you might enjoy doing here are: Running/Jogging, Yoga/Zumba/Pilates, Swimming/Bathing and more. In addition to this, you can choose from sitting in wonderful chairs, facing the sun, down closer by the city, or you can go out into the "dock" and find a seat there. I would definitely reccomend it.

Lovely walking area. Great views of the harbour and city. You really must incorporate this into a visit to the much more crowded Nyhaven. It's just a little further along the water. You can walk on a declining slope right up to the waters edge.

Impressive scale.

Near the waterfront is an open air activity geared for programs and gimmicks. It start on realization and fruition with the outbreak of the pandemic. So far the hotels have made their own initiative

One of the best places to admire Copenhagen's harbour (especially the opera house and the Amager Bakke power station), this "square" regularly hosts cultural events including the famous light installations in winter. But when we visited in April there was nothing going on.

However, the small kiosk Luftkastellet was open even in the evening, perfect for grabbing drinks (alcoholic and virgin) and taking seats to watch the world goes by.

The grand opening of Ofelia Plads (June 29th 2016) in the center of Copenhagen next to the royal playhouse and Amalienborg castle clearly demonstrated its great potential. You can just walk around, sit and relax, have coffee, a beer or something to eat. At the opening there were both concerts, opera, ballet and different activities for all ages. It will among other be a venue for performances by the Royal Theatre and the Copenhagen Jazz Festival.

The area offers great views of the surrounding harbour. Be warned: it can be quite brisk due to the coastal wind, so wrap up warm!

THE WAVE: 50m of triangels that light up in the dark at Ofelia Plads (Vertigo x Louise Alenius) and while being there walk 50 m towards the "Skuespilhus" and see ThonLab
Light Rings - coloutfull rings in the water in front of the building. The fantastic Operahouse will appear on the other side of the canal

We had first discovered this very pleasant waterfront location during our first stay in Copenhagen two years ago. While in Copenhagen again recently, we paid another visit to this spot during a hectic day of tourist activities.
We had been to see the four Amalienborg Royal Palaces and after enjoying a brief rest in the Amaliehaven garden, we had walked on along the waterfront enjoying the views out over the water. When we arrived at the broad wooden boardwalk of the Ofelia Plads it was time for to take some more time out for another short rest.
If we had needed something to eat or a drink, there were several options located here where those needs could be met. Instead, we simply stood and took in the splendid views of the buildings across the waterway and the activities on the water itself.
A great place just to relax and take in the scenery!

Ofelia Plads is a square located on the harbor front between Nyhavn and Amalienborg.

It is a very popular hangout place during good weather. You can even swim here.

This is a very pleasant place to hang out, have a drink, and people watch. There's a lot of comfortable lounge chairs and a bar and some food trucks. Sometimes there's live music. Very nice views of the canal and gorgeous buildings.
